Big Bash Cricket
Last Friday some of our students had a fantastic day at the Big Bash Cricket. It was hot out in the middle but nonetheless, enjoyable. The students hit the ball with ease, made some great runs and fielded with skill. I am especially proud of the sportspersonship and high level of excellentbehaviour they displayed throughout the day. A huge thank you to Mr Lee, Phys Ed specialist, and Mrs Butler, Education Assistant, who arranged and supported the students on the day.
Year 6 Camp
They have come home tired, a bit grubby and with great stories … and that is just the staff. Of course, the Year 6 students had a wonderful time too. It was so good to hear about students challenging themselves to do things that they would otherwise never do, how they encouraged each other when the tasks appeared too difficult, and to share in the laughs about the antics that they got up to as they spent time with friends. Camp is a highlight for the children and I am glad that that staff worked hard to make it happen. I would like to thank Miss Mercer, Mr Easther, Miss O’Connor, Ms Sivic, Mr Lee, and Mrs Wendt for organising and attending camp. It is a massive undertaking and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who supported last week’s Book Fair. The children left the library having purchased an assortment of stationery, posters and books. Book Fair not only allows children to spend their pocket money but is also an important fundraising event so that the library keeps its book collection up to date for everyone to enjoy. The school received $1,186 in commission. Thank you to Ms Rees, Library Officer, for coordinating this event.
Visiting Indonesian students
Last Friday seven Indonesian students visited the school to have a look around. They visited classrooms, participated in lessons and had a chat with our students. Thank you to Ms Mulyana, Indonesian specialist, for making this possible for everyone.
School Board and P&C Association
Last Wednesday the School Board and P&C Association met for the final time this year. The Board has approved the voluntary contributions and extra cost options for 2020 and this information will be sent to families on Monday 25th November. The Board also discussed the actions needed to ensure that the Business Plan strategies become part of every day practice, and approved the extension of the agreement between the school and OSHClub so that they are able to offer an ongoing service to the community.
Bugs, viruses and illness
As the school winds down and everyone gets tired, there can be a resurgence of bugs, viruses and illness amongst staff and students. It is vital that sick children stay at home because there is no better place than in bed and being with a parent. So that the illnesses do not spread around the school, if your children have a headache, sore throat, temperature, or stomach bug then please make sure that you keep them at home. For the more severe illnesses such as measles, mumps, whooping cough and glandular fever please get medical advice and follow the doctor’s direction. It is also important that you contact the school so that we can inform staff and students whose immune system is not as strong as others.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
A very big congratulations to our Merit Award Wiiners from the Assembly held on Friday 15th November.
Joondalup Kid Award
Eshaal, Year 2
Eshaal is a kind, gentle and compassionate student who goes out of her way to make an effort to help her peers. Eshaal always encourages others during collaboration tasks and supports those who may need extra assistance. We are lucky to have such a responsible and respectful Joondalup Kid.
On the 7th November our campus participated in Outdoor Classroom Day. This is a global campaign designed to inspire and celebrate outdoor learning and play. Outdoor learning has been recognised to improve health, engagement with learning activities, develop critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity whilst having lots of fun. The students at Joondalup Schools from Kindy to Year 6 engaged in a range of outdoor learning activities with their own classes and with buddy classes.
Everyone participated in a scavenger hunt across the outdoor learning environment of our school. The students completed four outdoor tasks to reveal hidden letters that spelt out the answer to a mystery riddle related to the environment.
The students completed experiences such as team games, mindfulness activities, mathematic activities using natural materials and even flying paper planes outside. The Kindergarten students across both campuses also participated in their own outdoor learning experiences combined with the Play and Learn students from Joondalup Primary School. All the students and teachers had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful outdoor learning environments we have at Joondalup. Have a look at some of the photos that capture the enthusiasm and enjoyment shared by all involved.

Indonesian students visiting Joondalup Primary School
On the 15th November, seven students and a parent from Jakarta visited Joondalup Primary School for a study tour. Before coming to our school, they visited some of Perth's universities.
The students from Indonesia are Faradiba, Ariel, Nurul, Shifa, Gabriel, Tristan, and Vanya and the parent who accompanied them is Ibu Francisca Eron. In Indonesia, all public schools are named by numbers. The visiting students are from Sixty Senior High School or SMAN 60. At our school assembly, the visitors received gifts from our school. The gifts were organised by our school principal, Ms Carol Selley.
While they were here, the students visited the Music, Visual Art, Science and Indonesian classes.
The students from Jakarta helped our Years 5 and 6 students to complete their Indonesian tasks and also conversed with them in Indonesian. Rooms 6 and 8 students learned three Indonesian dances from Sumatera Island.
The visiting students enjoyed their visit to Joondalup Primary School and gave a very positive comment on our school and students.
The visiting Indonesian students said that the Joondalup Primary School students are amazing. When Ms Tammy Hanrahan asked about their comment regarding their visit to our school, they said, 'They are very active. We did not know this school has such very a good program of studies.”
Well done students and thanks to the seven students of Sixty SHS and Ibu Fransisca Eron the supervisor and the G’Day tour leader Ibu Iing Pramudi for visiting Joondalup PS.

Maths Award
Joanne, Year 4
Joanne has a passion for Mathematics and a natural ability to grasp a deep understanding of complex concepts. She is like a human calculator and her processing speed never fails to impress us.
Pre-Primary Mathematicians
During this term the children have been exposed to a number of activities dealing with sharing. This is a necessary prerequisite skill to teaching division. In one activity the children were asked to share a number of choc chips between two cupcakes. They were also asked to share an equal number of kites between a group of people. In another lesson the children were given fifteen match sticks and asked to share the match sticks equally between three playdough echidnas. In measurement the children have been using balance scales to weigh a number of concrete objects to develop the mathematical language of heavy and light. Other measurement tasks have involved capacity. The students were asked to fill a variety of containers with sand which was then used to develop the mathematical language of which containers hold more or less.
