Principal's News

Andrew.jpg

Wednesday, 14 June was School Officer Appreciation Day. I would like to thank our amazing school officers, Mrs Barrett and Mrs Earley, for always going above and beyond to support our students and families.  Their friendly and professional manner sets the tone for a positive and caring school culture.

Ms Selley will return to Joondalup PS at the commencement of Term 3 and is excited to see everyone again. I would like to thank the Joondalup school community for your support during my time here. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff and students, as everyone is committed to improving outcomes. As Term 2 concludes on Friday, 30 June 2023, I would like to wish all families a safe, enjoyable and relaxing break. Students recommence Term 3 on Tuesday, 18 July 2023.

Additional Staffing Update

Ms Strating is continuing her recovery. Mrs Forbes and Mrs Sublet will continue to be the class teachers of Room 18 for at least the first half of Term 3.

We will know more about Ms Hanrahan at the end of Term 2. As soon as we know, we will provide clarity to the families in Room 6.

I wish them both a speedy recovery.

Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) – Year 4 Assessment

The PEAC Program provides part time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6. PEAC offers a range of courses that provide identified students with work that is intellectually challenging. All students in Year 4 will have the opportunity to be assessed for suitability for the PEAC Program. Testing at Joondalup Primary School will occur on Tuesday, 1 August 2023.

If you do not wish your child to be included in the PEAC assessment, please notify the school in writing by Friday, 28 July 2023

Pyjama Day

Thank you to everyone who participated in Pyjama Day on 1 June 2023. This initiative raised $599 for our sister school in Cambodia – Srang Primary School

Our connection with Srang Primary School is thanks to the ANGKOR Project. The project promotes cooperation in education between the Department of Education in Western Australia and the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport in Cambodia;

Strategies to support sister schools in Cambodia are:

  • the provision of drinking water and toilets to sister schools;
  • the provision of teaching and learning materials to sister schools;
  • the provision of electricity and information technology to sister schools;
  • professional development for Australian and Cambodian educators;
  • a partnership with Growth Coaching Australia to provide coaching for teachers and administrators.

NAIDOC – National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee

NAIDOC week occurs annually in July, and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We will be acknowledge NAIDOC Week at Joondalup PS during the last week of Term 2. One of the planned events is a community picnic. Families are welcome to join us for the picnic on Thursday 29 June from 12:20. Please bring a picnic rug. Our canteen will have a special lunch order available on the day, which is a picnic box with a drink.

A range of activities have been planned.

Before School Routine

Just a quick reminder that students are not to be on playgrounds or playing on the oval in the mornings. Classrooms open at 8:35 am to enable students to be organised for an 8:50 am start. If you’re child arrives before 8:35 am, they are to wait outside their classroom.
