Music News from Mr Sutherland
In Music, we have been writing our own compositions by creating rhythms and assigning pitch to these rhythms, which we then perform on chime bars. This approach demonstrates the importance of scaffolding music learning through composition. Starting with a limited pitch set, such as sol and mi, is ideal for beginners because it allows us to focus on mastering a smaller number of notes before moving on to more complex melodies. This limited pitch set also provides a clear structure for us to follow, making it easier for us to learn and remember the patterns. As our skills improve, we can progress to more extensive pitch sets and more challenging compositions. This gradual approach to learning music helps to build confidence and sets a strong foundation for future musical exploration. Here are some images of our students playing their compositions on chime bars labelled sol and mi – they’ve been doing an amazing job!
