Thank you

I would like to acknowledge the work of Becky Thomas who was the P&C Association Treasurer for 2022. Throughout the year Becky has managed the incoming and outgoing funds, updated records and put clear processes in place for the incoming treasurer. Becky’s contribution of time and expertise has been greatly appreciated by the school and everyone who is part of the P&C Association. Well done to Becky on a very successful year; we could not have done it without you.

School Board Parent Representative Election

You will have received an email from the school that includes a link which enables you to vote for two parent representatives for the School Board. Please click on the link to access the online voting process.

The candidate details are as followed:

Janine Gunn

My name is Janine Gunn and I am a parent of five children. They are currently in years 8, 6, 3, Pre-Primary and the youngest is part of the Play and Learn program with Mrs Reddicliffe. This is my third year with kids at Joondalup primary. Prior to this I homeschooled for 7 years, so I have a good understanding of curriculum outcomes and requirements. I previously attended Joondalup primary as a child so have a long history of connection with the school, starting as one of the founding students in 1993.

I would like to join the school board as now most of my children are at school full time and I am looking for a way to be more involved in the school community. I am a radiographer and work part time at Joondalup Hospital primarily working with emergency patients. As a family we are involved in little athletics, hockey and netball which we volunteer to help with. I have not been a part of a school board before but am enthusiastic to learn how it all works.

Navdeep Kaur

I am Navdeep Kaur, parent of two children, one studying in Kindergarten with Joondalup Primary School and the other in Year 7. I have good experience in the education industry, having worked in the field for eight years. I have worked in VET Sector and Higher Education sector. Currently, I am working with the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation in the International Education department.

I am interested in being a parent representative on the School Board at Joondalup Primary School. I believe serving on the Board will allow me to make a positive impact on the school and its students. I bring a unique perspective to the Board, having worked in the education industry for a significant period. I have extensive knowledge of the education system and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by students and teachers. I believe that being a parent representative on the Board will allow me to contribute to achieving this goal.

Richard Mortimer

My name is Richard Mortimer, I have enjoyed living in Joondalup for 16 years, with my two sons both going through Joondalup Primary, where my eldest has proudly graduated, and my youngest is

in grade 4. The experience for them to learn and grow has set them up for a strong start, and I would like to take the opportunity to give back.

I am interested in becoming a School Board Member to give back to the school community and build stronger connections to the school values of being respectful, responsible, and safe. I appreciate first-hand the high quality education that Joondalup Primary School provides to students and believe I have the enthusiasm and skills to make a valuable contribution to help.

I have an established career in IT, which enables me to bring to the Board a unique skill set of technical knowledge and highly developed strategic thinking and decision-making. In all my roles, I have worked in collaboratively in project teams to achieve successful outcomes.

During my down time I like to play guitar and am a committee member of the Merriwa Acoustic Music club for the last 3 years. We provide a location for acoustic musicians in the northern suburbs to play, plus other functions for members.

Dogs on the school site

From next week dogs (unless service dogs) will no longer be allowed on the school site.  We have made this decision as we have a child with a severe allergy for dogs which results in an anaphylactic reaction requiring immediate first aid.  We also have considered the growing concerns expressed by families and staff about dog poo in playgrounds and dogs weeing on playground equipment and drink fountains.  If you walk your dog to the school it needs to be left at the gate.  Alternatively arrange for your children to meet you at the gate rather than coming on to school grounds.

Assembly update

The next assembly is on Tuesday 7 March 2023 at 2.15pm and is being presented by the Year 2 classes. It is ‘Talk for Writing’ inspired and rehearsals are in full swing.

Parking at the Family Centre of Jolstra Crescent

Parking at the Family Centre is not permitted at any time. The carpark is only for those families who use the services and it is unfiar on those who attend the centre for appointments. You must find somewhere else to park and stay out of their carpark. 

Staff meeting update – Positive Behaviour in Schools

This afternoon the staff are participating in a staff meeting where the focus is on our Positive Behaviour in Schools (PBS) journey. If you have read the latest information book sent out last week, you will have seen that we have four whole school behaviour expectations. These expectations are:

· We are Responsible

· We are Respectful

· We are Kind

· We do Our Best

The staff are working out the finer details of what constitutes ours and student actions if we expect to see these expectations happen every day. Watch this space for more PBS news

Student Update Forms

We have had a huge response to the number of Student Update Forms that have been returned to the school. This information is so important as it helps us help children should we need to contact families. It also ensures that you get all information that is sent electronically. If updating and signing this form is still on the list of things to do, please make it a priority.

Third Party Service Approval

The school needs your approval for students to use computer tools, apps and games including Mathletics, Study Ladder, Apple products, and Kapture Photography. Please use the link to access the online form.

P&C News

AGM – The P&C Association AGM will be held on Wednesday 15 March 2023 at 7.00pm.

When you come to the AGM please:

· Bring a $1.00 to the meeting as this makes you a financial member and you can then vote

· Consider nominating for one of the office bearer positions

The roles of President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and two P&C Executive members are all vacated at the AGM. Current P&C members may re-nominate for their position or someone new may nominate. If you would like more information about what these roles involve, please contact the office. We are very pleased that Rolf Chorley has nominated for the position of Treasurer.

Following the AGM there will be a regular meeting.

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy) Trial

During the week of Monday 27 March 2023, Year 3 and 5 students will be completing practice NAPLAN assessments. The purpose of these practice assessments is for children to have a go at using the online platform, write or type a narrative or persuasive text within a specified time, and to test the computers and headphones. Student names are not attached to the practice tests and scores are not recorded.

Monday 6 March - Public Holiday (Labour Day) No children or staff at school
