Principal's News

Dear families

Thank you to the P&C Association

The school would like to thank the P&C Association for their generous donation which allows Joondalup Schools to purchase our own interschool and event T-shirts.  These T-shirts will be worn by children when they represent the school at interschool sporting events. Not only will our sporting skills stand out, but we will stand out as a team.

Thank you to the wonderful P&C for organising this year’s Colour Run.  It takes the work of many volunteers to make these whole school events happen and we are very grateful for the time and effort given to help raise funds for the school.  I know that the children and staff can’t wait until Friday afternoon.  Remember that children need to wear a cheap, white T-shirt.

If you would like to come and see this fun event unfold, we are assembling on the oval from 1.45pm on Friday 5 November.

Just a suggestion – If you are driving your children home, have an old towel handy to cover the seats.

Dodgeball Competition

Last Friday two teams represented the school at the annual Dodgeball Competition.  Our children played fearlessly, and the hours of practice made a huge difference to how confident they felt during the games.  The overall winner of the day was Ocean Reef Primary School.  Thank you to Mr Lee who takes dodgeball very seriously and strives to make our students be the best they can be.  Thank you also to Miss Mercer for being part of the supervision team at the event.

School Development Day

Don’t forget that the School Development Day is on Friday 12 November 2021.  No children come to school on that day.  Our plans for the day are for the teachers to spend some time looking at the school data and to improve our skills to use the Department’s platform to access the data more efficiently.  The education assistants will be attending First Aid training so that we have more staff with current qualification to respond to injuries and illnesses.

Staff News

From Monday 15 November 2021 Mrs Carol Perry, Associate Principal, will be taking long service leave and then return to school for the beginning of the 2022 school year.  I would like to thank Mrs Perry for all of her hard work throughout the year.  She manages and leads so many things – collaborative teaching groups, committees, operational matters like timetables and assemblies, and responds to the everyday things that come through the office.  Mrs Perry is going to spend the time enjoying the warm weather and having the free time to be with her family and much-loved granddaughter.

Swimming Lessons

Don’t forget that swimming lessons are fast approaching.  Please make sure that you have read the notes sent home and check your class Connect notices for reminders about what children need.

Monday 8 November to Friday 19 November     Year 3-5 Swimming lessons

Please note that there are no swimming lessons on Friday 12 November as it is a School Development Day

Monday 22 November to Friday 3 December     PP-Year 2 Swimming lessons

All swimming lessons are taking place at HBF Arena.

Yesterday the Year 6 families were advised that there will be no swimming lessons for them this year.  There is a national shortage of swimming instructors so it was not possible to run an effective program where the children would be given enough opportunities to improve their skills and pass a swimming stage.  Rather than a watered down (excuse the pun) opportunity, we have decided to redirect the swimming lesson money to some fun things that the Year 6 children can enjoy as part of the end of Year 6 celebrations.

New School Library

It’s not quite ready but it is taking shape.  Looking at the photos, it is hard to believe that this was once the staffroom.  Here is a sneak peek into the progress that is being made:
