Term One Celebrations

The term has flown by and once again, it has been very busy for students and teachers. Some of the activities were the GRIP Leadership Conference for the Student Councillors and Faction Captains, Faction and Interschool Carnivals, Harmony Day, Ride to School, Lantern Parade, Joondalup Learning Community Conference, Open Night, Science Enrichment Program, PIVOT Surveys on teacher effectiveness, On-Entry Assessment for all Pre-primary students and the ANZAC Commemorative Ceremony. I would like to thank all the staff for their hard work and dedication to ensuring these events happened seamlessly, without their assistance, these events wouldn’t occur.

Congratulations to these students for being fantastic Joondalup Students, Justin, Orlando, Richard, Caleb, Andy, James, Jason, Joshua, Clancy, Wes, Lavannah, Sienna, Lilly, Mackenzie, Zoey, Charlotte, Rachel, Ciara, Brittany, Layla, Shanaya and Riley. They all enjoyed Pizza with the Staff in recognition of being a positive role model and being Respectful, Responsible and Safe.

School Board Update

The School Board met for the second time this term. Below is an abridged version of our last agenda. The Board meets twice per term to discuss the governance of the school.

  • School Board Code of Conduct
  • School Finances and Funding Agreement
  • School Board Training
  • 2018 Annual Report
  • Workforce Management Plan

I would like to thank Kerry Hollywood, Councillor at the City of Joondalup for her time on our School Board. Kerry has retired from her position on our Board as she feels it’s time for some new knowledge and expertise. Kerry’s insight and knowledge will be missed and on behalf of everyone not just members of the School Board but students, staff and parents, thank you, we wish you all the best for your future endeavours.

Staffing Update

As you are all aware Mr Hahn retired at the end of Week 3, Term 1. The position will be officially advertised sometime in Term 2 and then interviews will be conducted after shortlisting has taken place. It is likely that I will remain in this position for the majority of Term 2 until the process has been finalised. Mr Bibby will return to his teaching position for Term 2 and Mrs Young will join the executive team as the Associate Principal. Mrs. Cobbledick will replace Mrs Young in the classroom. A comprehensive handover will take place to ensure continuity of learning programs and student needs are catered for. Thank you to Mrs East for taking over Mr Bibby’s position, you have taken all of the challenges in your stride. A big thank you to Mr Bibby for joining our Executive Team this term. Your knowledge and expertise will be missed as well as your awesome sense of humour.

GRIP Conference Feedback

On Wednesday 27th March our students, who hold a Leadership role, attended the GRIP Conference which involved the training of our students as leaders. I wanted to share an email that I received from John, Principal of Inner City College regarding our Campus Leadership Team.

“Just to let you know that I caught the train in this morning, and shared a carriage with the Joondalup PS student leadership team. Both kids and staff were a credit to your school. The kids were excited, polite and courteous to all members of the community. For a Principal with no students, it made a lovely change and a great way to start the day! Congratulations to all involved.”

Thank you

Thank you to all parents and community members who assisted and supported our school programs such as OSCAR, OSCAM, carnivals, canteen roster and school banking. I would like to also acknowledge our dynamic Parents and Citizens team for all of their fund raising events they have coordinated this term. All of you have made a positive impact for your child’s school, congratulations and well done.  I would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 29th April.

Lantern Parade

IMG_3863

On Saturday students, families and staff formed part of the annual City of Joondalup Lantern Parade Festival. The theme this year was Earth, Moon and Stars. Joondalup Primary Schools was represented by a number of students dressed in traditional Indonesian costume. These students played the angklungs, to the tune of “I Still Call Australia Home”, while also carrying models of the planets in our solar system. A huge thank you to Ibu, Mrs Phillips and campus staff for leading the organisation of the parade. A huge thank you to all the parents, staff and students who gave up time after school and on weekends to create costumes, lanterns and props for the festival.

I hope you have a fantastic holiday.
