Happy Father’s Day

I hope that everyone enjoyed Father’s Day and took some time to get out on what was a sunny weekend with family and friends.  There was lots of activity in classrooms as children made presents and cards for the important men in their families.  Here are some pre-production photos for you to enjoy:

Thank you to the P&C Association for their wonderful Father’s Day stall.  As expected, nearly everything sold out.  It was a huge effort by parents to stock the stall with wrapped gifts and we appreciate their efforts.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Joondalup ESC for being named as a finalist for the WA Primary School of the Year for the WA Education Awards.  It is wonderful recognition for the quality learning program they provide to students, their strong relationships with families and the community, and skills and expertise of all staff.  Best of luck for the big announcement in November.

One Big Voice

What a great night of singing, dancing, noise, laughter, excitement and anticipation.  The children performed beautifully and their excitement about being in a huge choir, at the Arena was palpable.  It was a delight to sit in the audience and see our children (and the rest of the schools) sing loudly and confidentially.

Thank you to Miss O’Connor and Mrs Butler for the many hours invested in rehearsals, organisation, correspondence to families and keeping the children informed about the what, who, where and why.

Thank you to Mrs Young, Mr Cutler, Miss Mercer, Mr Lee and Miss Sivic for volunteering their time for Friday’s night event by being the supervising team and key supporters leading up to the event and on the day.

Thank you to school admin for offering advice and support throughout the preparation process, answering parent questions, making phone calls and getting letters and permission slips organised.

I am very proud of what the Joondalup School choir achieved.

Education Assistants Appreciation Week

Last week we recognised the work of education assistants with a coffee voucher and chocolate.  Our education assistants play an important role in the education of students across all classes.  They are the listeners, encouragers, supporters, wise counsellors and educators who make a difference every day.  Thank you for the vital work you do with your students and colleagues.

Business Plan feedback

Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey where we wanted to know your Top 2 ideas for the school.  There were a range of suggestions including improving the oval, building our sustainability program, having lunch time activities available to children, increasing the number of trees and grassed areas, and a second-hand uniform shop.

There were four randomly selected parents who received a $50 gift voucher for contributing to the survey.  The winners of the prizes were:  Jen Coyle, Genine North, Anita Kay and Will Appleford.

We have done a similar process with the children.  Perhaps, interestingly you and the students want the same things – an oval, play equipment, a slide in Nature Play, a big swing, re-paint the courts, and get footy goals.

We are combining survey feedback with student comments to identify common themes and to see how they fit into the next business plan.

Year 6 reminders

Have you returned your signed camp permission and health care forms?  Miss Mercer is away this week but Mr Cutler is very happy to accept them.

Don’t forget to complete enrolment forms for Year 7 and hand them in at the new school.

Today’s assembly

At today’s assembly the Year 5 children presented a very amusing reflection on everything that has happened so far.  Well done to the staff and children whose assembly made us say, “Yeah, that happened!”

Congratulations to the honour certificate recipients.  Here are some of the reasons they were given - contributes to class discussions, expresses ideas, tries things before asking for help, more work being completed, volunteering in class, works to a high standard, improved self-confidence, great mental Maths skills, independent writing, asking interesting questions, persistence, and better listening skills.
