Principal's News
Dear families
New staff carpark
The new carpark is open. The increased bays will take the pressure off the parking spaces around the school making more room for parents and visitors on the surrounding streets.
The old playground equipment has been taken away although we managed to keep the slides for our next project. Getting a new playground is a lengthy process and it is likely that new equipment will be installed during the summer holidays. I have seen a proposal and it will be worth the wait!
I would like to thank Natalie Farina, Antonette Vorster and Natalie Hatton for the collective knowledge and perseverance that they have brought to this project. Under the bitumen is many meetings, emails, phone calls and a good dose of negotiation.
Please be aware that the parking rules around the school have not changed and the City of Joondalup rangers are out and about issuing warnings and fines. You cannot block driveway access, park under ‘no parking’ signs or park to block people’s line of vision down a street. You cannot use the carpark that is next to the neighbourhood centre as it is not ours to use.
Staffroom and library renovation
Work in these two spaces continues. The new staffroom (what was the library) will be ready for use about Monday 6 September. The work on the new library will then commence on Friday 3 September. Given the shortage of key construction materials, such as steel, the timeline for this part of the build is unknown.
End of the School Day
Please remember that everyone should leave the school ground at the end of the day. Playgrounds, including the space behind K Block is out of bounds.
Assembly news
Thank you to the Year 3 classes for a wonderful assembly. Congratulations to all of the children who received honour certificates. Some of the impressive reasons on the honour certificates included showing a positive attitude, learning Indonesian words, participating in learning, striving to achieve, perseverance, being helpful and caring, quality presentation of work, learning fractions, staying engaged, having maturity when making decisions, making others smile, and exploring knowledge of sounds.
The next assembly is Tuesday 24 August and we are celebrating Book Week. It’s dress up day so start putting your children’s costumes together. The assembly will be led by the senior classes from Education Support Centre.
Dogs at school
It is a privilege to bring dogs onto the school site. Please remember to always keep dogs on a lead and make sure that your dog is social enough to manage lots of children, noise and other dogs. Dogs must not wee or poo on the school grounds because no one wants to play in a space where there is doggie do-dos.
P&C Association meeting
There is a P&C Association meeting tomorrow Wednesday 11 August at 7.00pm. Please meet at the front gate.
Professional learning for teachers
This Thursday the teachers will be furthering their skills in using Connect as the preferred platform for communication and online learning. Most teachers love face-to-face learning but we have a responsibility to each other and our students to be ready to effectively use Connect. If you don’t have access to Connect, please contact the school office so that we can help you.
School uniforms
Please remember that children must wear the correct school uniform including school jackets and jumpers. If you need more uniforms go to: https://www.nellgray.com.au/
Bridge engineers
The Year 4 children have been building bridges and have discovered that it is fun but not easy. Planning has been extensive and they are now at the construction stage where they will see if the tiny sections can be put together to span a gap and support weight.

Year 5 parents
Please make sure that you have found the order form for the Year 6 Graduation Shirts for 2022.
Planning for 2022
Please contact the school if your children are not returning to Joondalup Primary School for 2022. A new school year seems so far away but a smooth start is in the planning that happens now.
Next newsletter
The next newsletter on Tuesday 24 August is being written by guest authors … I can’t wait to see how it comes together.
