Principal's News
Dear families
Health and Wellness Day
A huge thank you to Miss Skye Mercer, our Year 6 teacher, who led the school in a wonderful Health and Wellness Day last Friday. It was a great day where the children did lots of different activities – parkour, smoothie making, storytelling, box creations, laughing yoga, costume making with newspapers, and drummin,g to name a few. Having everyone involved made the day so memorable and I have no doubt that we went home just a little tired. I would like to thank all of the staff who organised activities, put in a huge effort with dressing up, decorated the school with metres of bunting and enjoyed the activities as much as the children.
The key message of “Everyday emotions” was reinforced throughout the day. Any given emotion is not good or bad; they just feel different. According to the children there is plenty of joy that comes with Christmas, meeting a baby brother or sister for the first time, getting a new pet, sadness when you lose a loved one or you get into trouble, and frustration when the computer stops working. How we manage and behave as a response to these emotions are some of the keys to strong mental health.

Education Assistant Appreciation Week
Last week we celebrated Education Assistant Appreciation Week. The children and teaching staff have wonderful education assistants who are so much more than ‘assistants’. They play a key role in keeping children engaged in their learning, supporting children with their individual needs, and helping with classroom organisation and lesson preparation. Our school would be so much less if it weren’t for their dedication and professionalism. To all of our education assistants – thank you for the work you do each and every day.
Faction Athletics Carnival
Tomorrow is the Faction Athletics Carnival. The day will commence promptly at 9.00am. Please make sure that children arrive at school on time so that they have some time to get organised. The classrooms will be locked at 8.50am.
Tug of war
Yesterday the factions competed enthusiastically in the faction tug of war. It was great to see so many children dressed in their faction t-shirts and cheering loudly. If this was a fore taste for tomorrow, it will be a great day.

Yarning Circle
The work of the Yarning Circle is well underway. The ESC children and some of the Year 3-5 primary school children have been painting the stumps that we are going to sit on. The designs have been made from the drawings that the children have created. Acacia Collard is our artist in residence and has done an extraordinary amount of work leading up to the children taking part in the Yarning Circles creation. Mrs Anna Eason, Associate Principal for Joondalup ESC, has played a crucial role in putting this project together and I greatly appreciate all of her efforts.

Follow up to reported suspicious behaviour around the school
As you may recall a letter was sent home last week regarding reported suspicious behaviour around the school grounds. I have been advised by WA Police that this matter is now resolved. Thank you for your vigilance and for looking out for our children.
Busy week for the extra things
It has been a busy week as all of the things that have been a long time in the planning happened all at once.
New interactive panels have been installed in all of the classrooms. There has been some disruption but the end result of having functioning technology has been worth it. Thank you to Mrs Stacey Young who started this process at the end of last year and to her and Miss Natalie Farina for installing computers.
New furniture also arrived and Year 1 and Year 2 classes have new desks and chairs. We now need to dispose of old desks and chairs so if you would like something for home, come and see us and we will gladly give it away.
Resolution of the electrical issues is progressing and we are meeting regularly with the consultants, Department of Finance staff and Programmed FM. There is light (pardon the pun) at the end of the tunnel.
