Open Night

Thank you to everyone who came to Open Night.  It was wonderful to see so many parents visit the school and have a chat with the teachers.  If you came to the Open Night, your child’s name was put into a raffle box.  Congratulations to Ruth D, Katelyn L, Jake B and Levi B each of whom won a $25 gift vouchers for the canteen.

Contact detail update forms

Thank you to for returning updated contact detail forms to the school.  It is really valuable for us to have current information so that we can get in touch with you.  The names of those families who returned the forms by last Thursday were put into a raffle box.  Congratulations to the MacKinnon, Leitao and Calverley families each of whom received a bag of groceries as a prize.

It is not too late to hand in your forms so please return them to classroom teachers or drop them into the office.

School Clean Up day

Thank you to Ms Sandy Bennett for organising our school’s participation in the School Clean Up Day.  Last Friday everyone did their part to ensure that the school was rubbish free.  We collected 22 bags of rubbish which is a significant reduction in the 49 bags collected last year.

GRIP Student Leadership

Today the school student leaders attended the GRIP Student Leadership Conference.  The conference helped our student leaders think about how they can contribute to the school being a role model, understanding the priorities, how to generate of ideas, and how to make things happen.  Thank you to Mr Easther and Miss Mercer for making this opportunity available for the students.

P&C Association

The P&C Association will hold their AGM on Wednesday 18th March 2020 from 7.00pm.  Importantly, there are three vacancies that need to be filled and these are President, Vice President and Secretary.  Filling these vacancies means that the P&C Association can continue to provide invaluable support to the school.  Without this leadership some of the current opportunities will need to be wound back.  The jobs are not overly difficult and there is plenty of assistance available to help those who volunteer.  Please seriously consider if you can help in any way.

New shed

The new shed is finished and we have moved all of the early learning equipment out of the sea container.  This is wonderful because we can get rid of the sea container and get our parking space back, everything will be in one place rather than spread across three smaller sheds, and frankly, it looks great.  Thank you to the Education Support Centre for funding this project.

New bore filter

For all of those who are local, you will have experienced the problems with using bore water on your gardens.  The high iron content means that buildings and paths are stained.  We are having a new filter fitted to the bore.  It is anticipated that some of the space around the current bore will be fenced off in the coming week and then work will be finalised at the end of the term.

New furniture

Mrs Read’s Year 1/2 class have some new furniture.  Everyone has a new height adjustable desk and the Year 2 children have the right sized chairs.  It has been worth the wait because the furniture looks good.  We hope to be able to purchase more furniture in the coming months and replace all classroom furniture.  It is not a cheap exercise but it will happen!

Behaviour focus

This fortnight we are focusing on how we behave on the verandah.  As part of our promotion of being respectful, responsible and safe we are reminding the children to:

  • Line up quietly
  • Walk in lines and keep to the left
  • Zip up bags;
    • The crows are becoming more brazen. They are starting to take lunches out of bags and will eat anything left on the verandah.
  • Walk on all paved areas

On-entry assessments

The Pre-Primary and Year 1 children have finished their On-Entry assessments.  All parents will receive a report to indicate what the children could do.  If you have questions about the report, please make time to speak with your child's teacher.

Head lice

Head lice are nothing new.  At some point, your children will get head lice or you will know someone who has had them.  The best way to keep on top of head lice is to make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly and if you find them, treat them as soon as possible.  It is also important that your children come to school with their hair tied up.

Assembly update

The next assembly is on Friday 27 March at 8.50am.  It is being presented by the Student Councillors.

Colour Explosion Fundraiser

The P&C Association’s Colour Explosion fundraiser is on Friday 27 March 2020 from 1.45pm.  A note was sent home outlining all of the details in the last fortnight.  To recap:

  • Children need to wear old clothes and a white t-shirt.  They do not need to wear their school uniform that day.
  • Children can fundraise by using the sponsorship form they have received or go online to www.myprofilepage.com.au.  Creating the profile page is very easy.
  • Your child can select a prize depending on how much money they raise.  The more money raised the better the individual prizes.  If you can’t find a prize you like, you can always select a ball and donate it to the school.  Mr Lee would be delighted to received extra sport equipment.
