From the Art Room with Mrs Thornton

I am excited to share the latest happenings from the visual arts room! Our students have been immersed in a world of creativity, exploring various mediums such as clay, paint, and oil pastels. Year 1 students are embarking on an artistic journey inspired by the works of Henri Rousseau. They are currently creating their own vibrant jungle scenes, allowing them to explore their creativity while learning about this influential artist.

In Year 2, our budding artists have been exploring Paul Klee’s enchanting piece, “Cat and the Bird.” Students practised direct drawing techniques and enhanced their work with beautifully blended oil pastels, bringing their unique interpretations to life. Year 3 is all about Jeff Koons's playful art! The students are creating mixed-media pieces inspired by his iconic balloon dog, combining different materials to express their artistic vision.

Year 4 started with a delightful project where they transformed clay into quirky melted snowmen. This hands-on activity encouraged their imagination and fine motor skills, resulting in some truly unique creations!

Finally, our Year 5 and 6 students are focusing on self-portraits. Year 5 is engaged in creating Micrography Self-Portraits, using words to form their images, while Year 6 is working on their graduation self-portraits, capturing their individuality. I am thrilled to witness our students' artistic talents flourishing, and I cannot wait to share more of their remarkable creations with you soon. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from our visual arts room!
