Principal's News

Carol 2024.jpg

Welcome to Term 4. It is a little hard to believe that we are in the final quarter of the school year.

Public School Review

The Public School Review was held at the end of last term. We  received very positive feedback about the work we are doing in all aspects across the school. Some of the highlights of the reviewer’s findings included:

  • The thorough and meticulous process the school undertook to prepare for the review; our ability to tell the Joondalup PS story with confidence was recognised.
  • The P&C Association and School Board are valued partners who make a strong contribution, and their role is appreciated by the school.
  • The school’s successful implementation of Positive Behaviour Support, Talk for Writing, Sounds Write and Heggerty, the rapid adoption of Compass, changes to how we support students with learning and behavioural difficulties and the positive impact that this is having, and the value that staff place on how we are work together were highlighted.
  • The in depth whole school review of student data is done well and leading to the school making improvements.

The recommendations in the report will form the basis for the next business plan to be developed in 2025. The final report is available on the school website.

Professional Teaching Council of Western Australia

Rhys Sutherland, our Music teacher, has been nominated by the Australian Society for Music Education WA for the PTCWA Outstanding Teacher Awards. We are very fortunate to have Mr Sutherland as a member of our school community. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and our students are better for his expertise. He is an active member of the Australian Society for Music Education WA, using this relationship to provide him with contemporary learning opportunities and ideas for the school. It is wonderful recognition for Mr Sutherland!

Athletic skills on display

Since the last newsletter the athletic skills of our students have been on display at the school’s Faction and Interschool carnivals. Both events were thoroughly enjoyed by the students, staff and families. The colour and fun of the Faction Carnival is always looked forward to.

I would like to thank Mr Craig Morrey, Physical Education teacher, for his efforts to ensure that these events were well organised and ran very smoothly on the day. The ‘behind the scenes’ work is a huge undertaking. Thank you to all staff who helped make everything happen just as we planned.

Thank you to the P&C Association for the morning tea stall at the Faction Carnival. Thank you also to everyone who donated goods and to those of you who made a purchase. The P&C and school appreciates the funds that were raised.

At last week’s Interschool Athletics, we came fifth in our new competition against Tapping, Banksia Grove, East Wanneroo and Wanneroo primary schools. We did, however, win the Grand Relay which was a highlight!

Everyone had a great day and it was wonderful to hear about the high quality sportspersonship displayed by the team.

Mr Morrey has included lots of detail about the Interschool Carnival further in the newsletter.

Year 6 Camp

Term 4 kicked off with the Year 6 Camp. The campers have returned even more excited and very tired following the camp antics. Everyone had a wonderful time. The students enjoyed activities such as a night walk, flying fox, archery, mountain biking and playing splatball.

Thank you to Miss Skye Mercer, Mr Harry Cutler, Mr Kyle Easther, Mrs Craig Morrey, Mrs Sue Egan, Mrs Jayne Butler and Mrs Heidi D’Uva for making the four-day camp possible. Once again, we would like to thank the P&C for their financial support of the camp.

Positive Behaviour in Schools

This fortnight our school’s behaviour focus is:

We are responsible by wearing a broad brimmed hat when we are outdoors.

To help your children collect dojo points please remind them to pack a hat in their bags. Currently we are seeing lots of caps and these do not protect from sunburn.

Please ensure that hats are labelled so that we can return them when they get lost.
