Welcome to the latest update from our vibrant Art Room.

I am delighted to share the incredible artistic journey the students have embarked upon during NAIDOC Week this year. Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Australia's Indigenous peoples, the Art Room has been buzzing with creativity and innovation. The students have immersed themselves in various art forms, each reflecting the spirit of NAIDOC Week and celebrating Indigenous culture.

The younger students have been busy making yarn texture sticks, a project that not only introduces them to the world of textures but also hones their fine motor skills. These sticks are not just pieces of art but expressions of their imagination and learning journey.

The older students have taken their creativity to new heights by crafting sculptures using hay and yarn. Inspired by the works of Western Australian Artist Sharyn Egan, these sculptures are stunning examples of how art can blend different materials to tell a unique story. Throughout this experience, the students have learned about the significance of texture in art, exploring various techniques in sculpting and weaving, and, most importantly, gained a deeper appreciation for Indigenous art and culture.

The talented Year 6 students have been exploring the delightful world of Wayne Thiebaud, a renowned American artist celebrated for his contributions to the Pop Art era. Thiebaud is best known for his captivating paintings of cakes, which vividly capture the essence and appeal of these sweet treats. The students drew inspiration from Thiebaud's approach to creating their own cake masterpieces. They started by sketching out 3D cakes, paying close attention to the details that make each cake unique. The students then used oil pastels to bring their sketches to life, adding bright colours and utilising techniques like shading and blending to enhance the depth and realism of their cakes. The results are a vibrant collection of mouth-watering art pieces that not only pay homage to Thiebaud's style but also showcase the creativity and skill of our Year 6 students.

Stay tuned for more updates on their artistic journey!
