Kaya families,
NAIDOC Week

Last week was the school’s NAIDOC Week! NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for students to learn and celebrate First Nation cultures and histories. Throughout the week the students have participated in a range of in-class activities including bracelet making, shared books and stories, and they recognised the achievements of Aboriginal people. Derek Nannup made a visit to the school and spent the day completing activities with groups of students. In between bursts of wet weather, Friday’s family picnic day commenced with an Acknowledgement of Country which was beautifully presented by Mickeel from Room 10, music from the choir and a drumming performance. The lunch ended with a highly competitive AFL Game between adults and students.

Upcoming assemblies

Next Tuesday 6 August the students from Rooms 18 and 20 will be presenting their assembly. The assembly will start at 2:15 pm in the Undercover area.

We also have a special assembly on Tuesday 20 August which is being presented by the School Choir before their One Big Voice performance on Thursday 22 August.

Musical dress up

Last Tuesday, our Year 6 students took part in their assembly which was all about musicals. Thank you to everyone who came to school dressed up for last Tuesday’s assembly. It was great to see so many staff and students dressed as someone from a musical. Grease was a popular choice with plenty of Pink Ladies and T-birds.

P&C Association meeting

There is a P&C Association meeting tomorrow, Wednesday 31 July 2024 commencing at 7:10 pm. Please come along.

Positive Behaviour in Schools

This week there will be more students coming to share morning tea to celebrate being the highest dojo winner in their class. We have a new focus which is ‘We do Our Best – We show good sporting spirit’. This is a timely focus as we ramp up our training for the Faction Athletics Carnival later in the term.

Our first focus for Term 3 was ‘We are Responsible – We are prepared, organised and ready to learn’. We will continue to remind children of the importance of being ready for the school day by having everything on their desks for the beginning of the day and knowing what is on the timetable. Being prepared and organised helps the day run smoother.
