Christmas Carols and 30th Anniversary
Last Friday night the school celebrated our 30th Anniversary with a display in the library. The display incorporated photographs, newsletters, newspaper articles and trophies that showed our history to current day. The Pre-Primary children added pictures to show what they think that the school will look like in the future. The school being underwater and robots featured heavily.
Our Christmas Carols was wonderful with each year level, students from JESC, and our Choir singing Aussie Christmas songs, and angklung players performing ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and for giving such positive feedback about the evening. Thank you to Mr Rhys Sutherland for his expert organisation and musical talent which made the night possible and to Mrs Jayne Butler for her support of the School Choir. Miss Penny Thornton created a beautiful backdrop made up of prints of reindeers. As always, Carols was a team effort. I greatly appreciate the work of staff from across Joondalup Schools who cooked the sausage sizzle, set up, packed away, attended rehearsals and helped on the night.

I had the privilege of hearing the Year 5 speeches and the quality was exceptional. The students were articulate, confident and passionate about why they wanted to be leaders. I was impressed with their ability to overcome their nerves and speak in front of all of the Year 4, 5 and 6 students and staff.
Thank you to Mrs Cobbledick, Mr Easther and Mr Brooke for their efforts to work with the students.
WA Education Awards
Congratulations to Joondalup Education Support Centre on winning the WA Education Award in Excellence in Disability and Inclusion. It is wonderful recognition for the work they have done to create a school culture that is inclusive of everyone at Joondalup Schools.
Staff news
At the end of the year we will be saying farewell to some staff members. Mrs Maria Beeson is returning to Caversham Valley Primary School. It has been wonderful to have Mrs Beeson in Year 2 this year. Her expertise as a classroom teacher has made a difference to so many children. The school has also benefited from Mrs Beeson’s skills in data analysis and the work she had done to support improving our student achievement.
Mrs Keren Segon will be joining the staff at Spring Hill Primary School next year. Mrs Segon has done a wonderful job of working with the Year 2s in Room 6. Mrs Segon has been involved in Moorditj and made a valuable contribution to the Year 2 collaborative teaching team.
Mrs Sinead Forbes has been working In the Year 1/2 class with Mrs Strating throughout the year. Mrs Forbes’ appointment always starts as something short-term only for her to end up spending most of the year at Joondalup. I would like to recognise Mrs Forbes’ willingness to adapt to the circumstances and for working closely with her colleagues.
Mrs Sue Christie has been one of our Education Assistants and has worked in a number of classes but spent most of her time in Room 18.
P&C Association
The P&C Association have met for the final time this year. Thank you to all of the parents who have committed their time and energy to this group. Significantly, I would like to thank Jo Salmons for her work as Secretary, a vital role for an effective P&C. The school community is very grateful for the expertise that Jo brought to the role. The P&C plays an important role as it has financially supported the school through a number of avenues including subsidising the Year 6 camp cost, purchasing school choir shirts, and buying equipment.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the P&C through your involvement in the Colour Run, Easter Egg raffle, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls, chocolate fundraiser, and disco. Every time you contribute, the school benefits and we are very grateful.

Enterprise Day
This Friday is Enterprise Day and is an afternoon where the Year 6s put their business management skills to the test and create something to sell or an experience to enjoy. To participate Pre-Primary to Year 5 students, need to pre-purchase tickets at a cost of 50 cents each. Ideally children need 10 tickets to have a go at multiple activities on the day.
Funds raised are used to subsidise the cost of the Year 6 Camp in 2024.
This week the students can pre-purchase their tickets outside of the Year 6 classes on the following days;
Wednesday 6 December - 8:20 am and 3:00 - 3:15 pm

Teacher vs Student Basketball Game
On Friday 17 November, Year 6 played in the teacher vs student basketball game. They displayed excellent sporting spirit and great teamwork throughout. All of the teachers enjoyed themselves and it was great to have a big crowd supporting the participants.
The result was a draw as the teachers were penalised 10 points for dangerous play (Mr Easther posterising children and Mr Brooke forgetting the difference between basketball and AFL). All jokes aside, a great game and the students did themselves proud!
Running Club
Thank you to the students who have attended Running Club this year and participated every week. It has been outstanding to see their enthusiasm and the support they give to each other.
Next year we encourage more students to join and look forward to our Year 2 being able to join us for the first time.
A massive thank you to Mrs Sue Egan for being out there every week and encouraging the students!

Indonesian Performance - Lakeside Joondalup
Selected students will play Christmas carols with Indonesian musical instruments or angklung and dance at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre this Thursday 7 December at 1:15 pm – 2:00 pm near Woolworths, in front of the big Christmas tree.
Every one is welcome to watch the performance.

Indonesian Teacher
The students have worked hard this year and learnt the Elements of Art and different techniques. Famous artists and art movements have also inspired them. To recognise and celebrate their artistic learning, the students will take home all their artwork. The students could create a personal “art show” at home, where they can share all their hard work and creativity with their families.
Here are some ideas on how to create the art show:
- Display the artwork in one room
- Enjoy a gallery viewing with family members
- Discuss the artwork “How did you make this?” “What is your favourite piece? Why?” “Tell me about your artwork.”
We have sensational artists at Joondalup Primary! You have all blown me away with your talents. Enjoy your holidays have fun and be artful.
The Joondalup Schools P&C has had a wonderful 2023 and would like to thank the school community for all your support. We have raised a considerable amount of money which will go directly back into our schools. We will be sure to keep you all updated on P&C purchases. To
everyone who has joined our P&C this year or helped in any volunteer capacity, THANK YOU! We simply cannot operate without the tireless efforts of volunteers.
On behalf of the current P&C, we would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Joanne Salmons for her extraordinary efforts as Secretary of the P&C for three years. Jo did not miss a single meeting in her time as Secretary (apart from her very last meeting when she was struck down by COVID-19 on her birthday!) Thank you, Jo, for your volunteer commitment, consistency and always bringing a smile to meetings. We wish you all the best as you embark on your new career in Nursing.
We have some exciting announcements with regards to new volunteers joining our Executive team. Welcome to our new President – Lisa Gibb and our new Secretary – Tammy Miller. We cannot wait to work together in 2024!
P&C PRESIDENT 2024 – Lisa Gibb
It's my pleasure move into the P&C President role, to connect with our fabulous school community and be part of my children’s school experience.
I have been working with the P&C since our arrival to the school in 2021, assisting with fundraising events and organising the school disco for the past two years. Outside of my volunteer role, I work in housing and student support in the university sector. I’m passionate about building community connectedness to support wellbeing in young people and families. I have three children who are moving into years 1, 3 and 6 next year and showing my support for the school in an active way has given them a great sense of belonging to the school community. I look forward to working with everyone and will always welcome new ideas, suggestions and a general chat about the P&C.
P&C SECRETARY 2024 – Tammy Miller
Hi I’m Tammy and I’m honoured to be taking on the role of P & C Secretary for 2024. My son just started pp at JPS in term 4. Having moved from a younger school, it was very apparent to me how lucky JPS is to have had 30 years of P & C contributions to bolster the school resources. This has motivated me to contribute to the school community as much as possible. I am grateful to our predecessors for their contributions and hope the P & C and school community as a whole can continue this great work for our children and future children of the school.
Looking ahead, if you would like to be more involved in your children’s school, and have more insight, and input, into decision making, we would like to extend you an invitation to attend future P&C meetings. Membership is not compulsory, our doors are always open, and extra hands, and fresh ideas, are always welcomed. Keep an eye out for the first meeting in February and please join us.
