Kaya families
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and got outside to be in the warm weather.
Staffing news
Miss Tammy Hanrahan, Associate Principal, has taken leave until the end of the term and we wish her a speedy recovery after surgery. Mrs Nerelle Phillips has stepped into the office until Thursday 16 March 2023 and then Mrs Kristina Reid will take over until the end of the term.
We welcome Mr James Copley into the Science teacher role until the end of term. Mr Copley had a great first week in the lab and he can’t wait for what is coming in the next few weeks. We can’t wait either!
Mrs Keren Segon will be teaching in Year 2, Room 6 for the last three weeks of the term.
Mrs Maureen Lahti is continuing to recover from surgery and is up and about. She isn’t, however, quite ready to come back to school so Mrs Nicole Fraser is staying in the classroom until the end of term.
It is also a busy time for staff attending professional learning. Year 5 and 6 teachers are working on the Sounds Write program and learning how to maximise the program for students in the middle to upper years. Mrs Maria Beeson and Mr Ben Brooke are attending Talk for Writing training in the coming week and will be away on Thursday and Friday.
Graduate teachers are required to attend Graduate Teacher training modules created by the Department of Education. Mr Rhys Sutherland, Mr Craig Morrey, Mrs Michelle Walker, and Miss Tayla Ross will be attending these workshops in the coming weeks.
Ride to School and Harmony Day
This combined event is taking place on Friday 24 March 2023. Students are encouraged to dress in orange on this day to recognise and celebrate our diversity, inclusiveness and belonging.
Everyone is also encouraged to walk, ride or scoot to school. You can meet staff at one of three points outside of the school grounds and arrive together. Don’t forget to decorate your wheels! There is a raffle for everyone who gets involved.
A note has been included in the newsletter which has all of the details.
Assembly update
The last assembly of the term will be held on Tuesday 4 April 2023 from 2:15 pm and is being hosted by the senior students in Joondalup Education Support Centre.

Over the past few weeks, students in music class have been exploring the fundamentals of rhythm by creating their own patterns using popsicle sticks. With the help of these manipulatives, students have been able to experience and manipulate physical representations of rhythm before moving on to more abstract concepts like time signatures and note values.
Using manipulative rhythms like popsicle sticks, students can build a solid foundation of understanding before moving on to more complex ideas. In addition to promoting musical learning, popsicle stick rhythms also encourage teamwork and social skills, as students must listen to each other and coordinate their movements to create the rhythm.
Overall, popsicle stick rhythms are a fun and engaging way to introduce students to the fundamentals of rhythm, while also promoting social skills. By using these manipulatives, students can develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of music.

Students in Year 3 have been developing artistic skills through experimentation with warm and cool colours to create artwork inspired by Drew Brophy.
PATCH is Play Activities That Create Happiness.
We meet on Monday and Thursday Lunchtimes. We have an open door for anyone that would like to come in and hangout in a safe place, make some new friends and do some fun activities.
Everyone is welcome!
Dear Parent,
The best gift any parent can give a child is the love of books and the joy and benefits of independent reading for fun. Children who read at home, or are read to, have a head start on reading success in school.
Our school participates in Scholastic Book Club and during the school year the Club catalogue will be advertised in the school newsletter, with all relevant links for ordering via LOOP. Please note that orders will only be accepted via LOOP.
You’ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. I recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $2).
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
Owning your own books is something special! I hope that you will encourage your child to order books this year. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our school, however there is never any obligation to order. I know of no better way to encourage reading than to allow children to choose the books they want to read.

Joondalup Schools P&C fundraises for both Joondalup Primary School and Joondalup Education Support Centre and every little bit of support is always much appreciated. If you think you could help in any way throughout the year in any capacity, please contact Jen Coyle on 0403 904 157 and we can add you to our WhatsApp volunteer group. No initial commitment – just putting your name into a pool when we make the call out for helpers for various fundraising activities. Many hands make light work and every cent raised goes back into our schools.
Entertainment Books are a fantastic fundraiser for Joondalup Schools P&C. For every membership we sell, 20% goes directly towards fundraising for our schools so if you are purchasing a membership – be sure to use the QR code here!
EASTER RAFFLE – A reminder that raffle tickets are avaliable until Sunday 2 April and donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the school office by Monday 3 April. All Golden tickets have SOLD OUT. The raffle will be drawn on Tuesday 4 April, Good luck!
KEEP UP TO DATE ON FACEBOOK – Joondalup Schools P&C operate two different Facebook groups, and these are fantastic ways to keep connected with parents, buy and sell second hand uniforms and keep up to date with goings on at our schools. There is also a dedicated Canteen Facebook page called The Munch Box where you can keep on top of pop-up specials and new menu additions. If you are not a member of these yet – join today!

JOONDALUP SCHOOLS P&C WEBSITE – Another great way to keep abreast of key school dates and info is via our dedicated P&C website. Here you can sign up for email alerts to let you know when special events or days are coming up, and this is also where you can purchase things like Easter Raffle tickets and other ticketed fundraising events for our schools.
CANTEEN VOLUNTEER CALL OUT – Our Canteen is managed by the P&C and run on a daily basis by the amazing Nicole, who is also a parent from Joondalup Schools. We are extremely lucky to have a canteen which can operate five days per week, however this is only possible with the help of volunteers. We are always looking for more amazing volunteers for our school canteen! If you can spare some time, please message Nicole on The Munch Box page and she will add you to the group chat.
All volunteers will receive a free lunch order for their child on their volunteer day. Great environment, lots of laughs! Our Canteen really appreciates the time given.
