Kaya families
We have had a wonderful start to the school year with students and staff establishing routines in classrooms and getting to know each other. We are looking forward to seeing what the new school year will bring for all of us.
Last week included everything that a new school year routinely has – sorting out stationery, finding out who is the class, reminders about school expectations, and setting up work books. Many classes have begun Talk for Writing, and Sounds Write begins in earnest next week.
Did you know that this time last year our school newsletter was filled with information about mask wearing and cancelling events? What a difference 12 months makes!
Smoking Ceremony
Yesterday students, staff and families participated in a Smoking Ceremony presented by Jason Barrow. It was a fantastic way to start the school year.
Essential information for families – For action as soon as possible
Third Party Service Approval From - Student online permissions.
Every year a student online permission form needs to be completed by parents and guardians. This approval form is particularly important as it allows your children to use specific types of apps and games including Mathletics, Study Ladder, Apple products, and Inquisitive. Approval is needed because some programs require students to login.
The Department has completed a risk assessment on thousands of providers and has denied school access where there is a risk to student’s online safety.
By completing the online form you give consent for children to use the programs that are part of the classroom program. Paper copies of the approval form are available if you would prefer.
Updated student information forms
This week children will receive a Student Information Update Form which shows the information that we have on the school database. Please check it, update it and return it to the school by Wednesday 15 February. It is vital that the school knows how to contact you, who the emergency contacts are, current medical contacts and if you have moved to a new house.
Family information booklets
Teachers are currently collating information booklets which will tell you how the classroom operates and will include a timetable, important dates, routines, and behaviour expectations. Please take time to read the booklet and contact class teachers if you have any questions.
Assembly update
The first school assembly will be held on Tuesday 14 February 2023 commencing at 2:15 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. This assembly is being presented by the school captains.
P&C Association Annual General Meeting and General Meeting
The P&C Association will be holding their AGM on Wednesday 15 February 2023 from 7:00 pm. All P&C meetings are held at the school in the staffroom. Rest assured, no one likes a long meeting and a good meeting is productive! Coming to the meeting does not automatically means that you get a job so please come and hear about the work of the P&C.
Congratulations to Mrs O'Connor
Congratulations to Mrs Rhiannon O’Connor on her appointment to Butler College as a full-time music teacher. Rhiannon’s success is testament to her qualities as a skilled and knowledgeable teacher, we wish her all the best.
New tee-shirts
Week 1 was all about many things, including tee-shirts. Year 6 students received their graduation tee-shirts and are looking very smart. Thankyou to Mrs Hunt who plans and orders the t-shirts in the previous year so that they arrive ready for the school year.
The other tee-shirts that arrived are new staff shirts. These shirts are extra special as the design was created by Mrs Bev Shaw, the school’s AIEO.
The design is Lake Joondalup which is Moora Boodjar region and an important place for indigenous people. The lake is a nesting place for birds and for turtles laying their eggs. Kangaroos live by the lake and they have resting places in the bush. The lake is surrounded by trees and bushes where animals live. It is a popular place for walking and riding bikes along the footpaths.
