Dear families
Staff news
It’s that time of the year when things are wrapping up. On Thursday we will farewell some staff who have made valuable contributions to the school.
Mrs Helen Sweet is retiring after 41 years as a teacher with most of her career being here at Joondalup Schools. Mrs Sweet’s career began in Esperance, it then took her to Norseman, Quinns Rocks and finally here. She has been a dedicated teacher who made the move to Visual Art in 2006, a perfect way of inspiring children to be creative with colour, texture and shape. Mrs Sweet has striven to promote the Arts as an important part of the school curriculum and worked alongside other specialist teachers to provide opportunities for children to show off their talents.
After 7 years at Joondalup Primary School, Mrs Rhiannon O’Connor will be moving to Landsdale Primary School to be their music specialist. Mrs O’Connor loves it here but this is an exciting opportunity for her see how another school works and for her to share her talents with new children.
Miss Daisy McCulloch has been appointed to Burns Beach Primary School next year and will be helping to lead the introduction of Education Support for this school community. Her expertise in this area will be invaluable. Thank you to Miss McCulloch for doing a wonderful job in Year 1/2 and being one of our popular relief teachers.
Mrs Mikaela Cross stepped into Year 4 at a time when there was a lot of change in rooms 7 and 8. We have appreciated her willingness to adapt to the circumstances and work alongside Miss Ross to continue the learning program for the class.
Mr Josh Tully has been working in Year 4 and during his short time here has taken over from a long-standing and respected teacher and worked with two newly appointed staff, as well as Mrs Angie Zyrucha in Year 3/4. Mr Tully has shown flexibility and dedication to being the best teacher possible for Room 4 and 7 children.
Mrs Sinead Forbes started as a relief teacher and then found herself teaching across Year 2, Pre-Primary and Year 1. Mrs Forbes’ role has been a challenge as she adjusted to different classrooms each with their own personalities and has taught nearly every content area. We are very grateful for Mrs Forbes’ talent as a teacher and her ability to switch lanes every time something happened.
Miss Lisa Denham has been working in Year 5 with Mr Kyle Easther, and later Miss Bayley Page. Thank you to Miss Denham for her commitment to the class and collaborating with her colleagues. Miss Denham will be working at Springhill Primary School next year.
Miss Bayley Page came to us as a relief teacher and found herself to be the Year 5 teacher for the latter part of Term 4. We appreciate that she has stepped in when the term was part-way through and then wrapping up. Term 4 is not the easiest of time to slot into a classroom. Miss Page has been appointed to Beaumaris Primary School next year.

Carols by Candlelight
Two weeks ago we enjoyed a fabulous Carols by Candlelight. It was very well attended and audience feedback was very positive. Thank you to Mrs Rhiannon O’Connor for her expert organisation and musical talent which made the night possible and to Mrs Jayne Butler for her support of the School Choir. Mrs Helen Sweet created another backdrop using leaves and palm fronds for the event. As always, Carols was a team effort. I greatly appreciate the work of staff from across Joondalup Schools who cooked the sausage sizzle, set up, packed away, attended rehearsals and helped on the night.
Enterprise Day
Congratulations to the Year 6s for organising a fantastic Enterprise Day and we think that it was one of our best events yet. Last Friday afternoon children were able to use their tickets to participate in activities and purchase items from stalls that were planned and organised by the Year 6 children. A total of $2403.40 was raised and is being used for next year’s Year 6 Camp.

Best wishes
I would like to acknowledge the work of the staff who have done an amazing job throughout 2022. Once again, we have managed to pack the year with a range of exciting opportunities for the students and their families. The staff have continued to show a high level of commitment to the education, safety and well-being of all students. It is a privilege to work alongside such an excellent staff. I extend my best wishes to the staff at Joondalup Education Support Centre.
To Miss Tammy Hanrahan and Mrs Carol Perry, thank you for always having my back, playing a crucial role in decision making, and leading the school to being better.
To Miss Natalie Farina, Mrs Jessica Barrett and Mrs Marie Earley, thank you for being so welcoming of our many children, families and visitors and being on top of many of the school activities.
To the School Board and P&C Association – Thank you for the important role you have played in the school. I have appreciated your input and valued your commitment to the school through your gifts of time and expertise.
To all of the children and their families, have a very happy Christmas. Enjoy the school holidays and take some time to chill out with family and friends, to get outside and play, read a few books, and not worry about getting ready for the school day. I will see everyone on Wednesday 1 February 2023 when I hear lots of holiday stories.
Merry Christmas!

Indonesian Performance Lakeside
On Friday 2 December, selected Joondalup Primary School students from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 had an excursion to the Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre. The students performed an Indonesian bamboo dance and a plate dance. They played angklung and sang an Indonesian Christmas carol. The songs they played were Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Silent Night on the angklung. Mason, Kobi, Zane and Cody performed an Indonesian bamboo dance. Alice, Kyra, Maddie, Izzy, Milly and Taylor performed an Indonesian plate dance. The students also sang We Wish You Merry Christmas - Selamat Hari Natal in Indonesian. We would like to thank Mrs Tri O’Neil who helped us prepare for the excursion. Well done to the students who took part in the excursion. The audience was mesmerised by your performance.
