Dear families
Carols by Candlelight
This Thursday is our Carols by Candlelight! The gates open at 5:00 pm with the performance commencing at 6:00 pm. Bring your own rug and get settled on the oval to watch the Kindy to Year 6 children perform. There will be a sausage sizzle and candles for sale. Please read the information in this newsletter so that you know what is happening.
School Captains
At next week’s assembly Tuesday 6 December the Year 6 school captains for 2023 will be announced. There will be six school captains, two faction captains for each faction, and two choir captains.
I had the privilege of hearing some of the Year 5 speeches and was blown away with the quality. The students were articulate, confident and passionate about why they wanted to be leaders. I was impressed with their ability to get over their nerves and speak in front of all of the Year 4, 5 and 6 students and many staff members. The children talked about making the school a great place for everyone, being caring by looking out for others, and made suggestions about things they would like to happen in 2023. Many made the point that being a captain means responsibility and not necessarily popularity.
Thank you to Mrs Cobbledick and Mr Easther for all of their efforts to work with the students and set up the election and to Miss Sivic and Mrs D’Uva for creating the poster display in the undercover area.
P&C Association
Last week the P&C met for the final time this year. Thank you to all of the parents who have committed their time and energy to this group. Significantly, I would like to thank Becky Thomas for her work as Treasurer for the past 12 months. The P&C plays an important role in the school as it is responsible for the canteen and 99 percent of the school’s fundraising. The P&C have financially supported the school by subsidising the Year 6 camp cost and funding equipment for Kindy.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the P&C through your involvement in the Colour Run, Easter Egg raffle, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls, chocolate fundraiser, and disco. Every time you contribute the school benefits and we are very grateful.
Enterprise Day
Friday 9 December is Enterprise Day! This event is more commonly known as Fun Day and is the afternoon where the Year 6s put their business management skills to the test and create something to sell or an experience to enjoy. Students go out at 1:30 pm until 2:00 pm with their class teachers to spend their tickets. The activities require between 1 to 4 tickets to have a turn or to buy something and tickets cost 50 cents each.
Students can pre-purchase their tickets before school from tomorrow, Wednesday 30 November, until next Friday 9 December and are available outside of Room 10 and 11.
All of the funds raised are used to subsidise the cost of the Year 6 Camp in 2023.
Returning library books
Students can no longer borrow books from the school library for the remainder of the school year. If you find library books at home, please return them as soon as possible. Don't forget to check the back of the car, on the bedroom floor and under the couch.
Students performing at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre
Selected students are going to be performing Christmas Carols played on angklungs, an Indonesian wooden instrument, this Friday 2 December at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre. If you are doing some shopping at the time, please stop by and support our students. A huge thank you to Ibu Maria Mulyana for organising this experience. Good luck to our performers!

Cats
The students in Rooms 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 viewed the work of Romero Britto. A cat in the style of his work was drawn and coloured in wax crayon and the students used warm colours for the cat and cool colours for the background and a dye wash was put over the top.
Carollers
The students have been busy practising Christmas Carols for Carols Night. I hear them singing through the wall. They sound lovely but I can only imagine what they look like. Maybe like these drawings! The students in Rooms 18, 20, 30 and 31 drew the portraits from direct instruction. They coloured them in with wax crayon. Hair was added by dropping dye on the page and blowing it around.
Spring
The students in Room 19 created these paintings. The background was painted on using concentric circles, and yellow and red was mixed directly on the page. The purple flowers and stems were printed on with cardboard and corks.
