Dear families
Welcome to Term 4. We have had a great start to the term and the children and staff have been excitedly talking about what is ahead for each class. There are swimming lessons, School Disco, Colour Run fundraiser for the P&C Association, Christmas Carols, end of year reports, as well as the usual teaching and learning.
Today the Year 6 students with Miss Mercer, Mr Cutler, Miss Sivic, Mrs Butler and Mr Sutherland left school for our annual four day camp trip in Dwellingup. Given the mountain of luggage loaded on the bus, plus what was already in Miss Mercer’s car, no one travelled particularly light. I look forward to hearing everyone's camp stories on Friday afternoon.
Staff news
At the beginning of the term we welcome Mr Rhys Sutherland to the school as our Phys Ed teacher on Wednesdays to Fridays, and Year 4, Room 7 teacher on Mondays and Tuesdays. Mr Sutherland has planned some great things for the students in the coming weeks.

Your support of the P&C and the events put together by a team of dedicated volunteers make a difference on so many levels. Children love going to the disco and the Colour Fun Run is a highlight on the school calendar. By contributing financially to the Colour Fun Run, the P&C is able to fund extra-special things at the school which everyone enjoys.
Thank you to our cleaners
A special thank you goes to our cleaners who do a fantastic job making sure our school is kept clean and tidy. COVID had a massive impact and our hard working school cleaners have gone above and beyond, often arriving in the morning well before everyone and being the last to leave to make sure that the school is clean and tidy and ready for the school day. We appreciate their work more than they may realise. We thank you very much.
This Thursday 20 October is Cleaner Appreciation Week so please remember to thank a cleaner.
Lost property
Please make sure that you have labelled all your child’s uniform. Jackets, hats, drink bottles and lunch boxes must have a name on them so they can be returned.
No hat, no play in the sun
As a Sun Smart School, all children are required to have a hat to play outside. Whilst we have some ‘emergency’ hats, it is essential that children have their own hats. Included with the newsletter is the updated uniform order form. The supply levels are very good.
Family budget and school expenses
There are several upcoming school activities that require money to participate. Please feel comfortable enough to come and speak with someone if the family budget is not stretching as far as it once did.
School Development Day
Please remember that our School Development Day for Term 4 is Friday 11 November. No students to attend school on this day.
Assembly update
The next assembly will be on Tuesday 25 October 2022 at 2.15pm and is being presented by ESC.
School grounds
Work on the school grounds continues with shade sails over the top of the playgrounds and the external painting has already made a significant difference to the schools's appearance. The students love the new sensory playground between B and C Block and are having lots of fun playing on it.
Christmas Carols – Save the date!
Please keep the evening of Thursday 1st December 2022 free for the school’s Christmas Carols event. Details will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Surrealism
The years five and six students studied surrealism. After viewing the artwork of Salvador Dali, they created a surrealist piece including an elephant with long thin legs.
Abstract
The students in Rooms 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 viewed the artwork of Piet Mondrian. A shape was drawn, straight black lines added and areas coloured with primary colours.
Penguins
Sculptures of a penguins were created out of clay by the Years 5 and 6 students.
Dishes with Glass
Ceramic dishes with coloured glass were created by the students in Rooms 18, 20, 30 and 31 during Science Week. The theme for Science Week this year was 'Glass'. A piece of clay was rolled out into a slab and gently eased it into shape in a small bowl. After the first firing the dishes were glazed in clear glaze and then glass pebbles put in them. We were excited to see how the glass changed.
Letter Abstract
The students 18, 19, 20, 30 and 31 viewed the artwork of Stuart Davis. A 2D abstract was created working with letters and felt pen. Following the 2D artwork a sculpture was created using foam letters, wire and a foam block.
