Kaya families
Welcome back to a new school term. We are excited about what is ahead - Faction Athletics, Book Week, assemblies, fundraising. Students and staff have enjoyed reconnecting after two weeks away and it is been fun to hear holiday stories.
COVID-19 continues to be a topic of conversation and we are reviewing our contingency plans so that we can respond quickly if there are high levels of staff and student absences. Cold and flu season is also upon us. Please help us do our part to keep everyone well by not sending your children to school if they are unwell.
We are expecting another delivery of RATs and each child at the school has been allocated 20 RATs. Once they have been delivered, parents or nominated adults will be able to collect them from the school.
NAIDOC Week Community Picnic
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our NAIDOC Week Community Picnic at the end of last term. It was wonderful to see so many families make time to enjoy lunch together and then do some activities.
Thank you to Chzantelle who gave the Acknowledgement of Country and to Mrs Bev Shaw, AIEO, for helping Chzantelle on the day and for her efforts to make NAIDOC Week, great.
Thank you also to the canteen team who put together many, many picky boxes which were quickly eaten.
School development day
Last Monday staff visited Perth Zoo for the day. We were able to go behind the scenes to look at the reptiles, cleaned up the tortoise enclosure, and checked the orangutans’ enclosure. We also saw the African Painted Dogs in full on pack mode as they were fed fresh meat.
The purpose of the day was to put our collaborative and communication skills to the test as we completed several tasks. We were reminded that more can be achieved when we work together, we need to consider the needs of the individual as well as the group, and that communicating clearly when under pressure is not always easy. As we welcomed new staff this semester, the activities were a great way to get to know people quickly and share some laughs.
Parent-teacher interviews
Don’t forget that parent-teacher interviews will be held from 12.00pm on Thursday 18 August 2022. To make a booking for all classes other than Mr Easther go to:
https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code/2hxp4
The link for Mr Easther's interview schedule is:
https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code/h9jt2
Our intention is that these meetings will be face to face. Should we receive COVID-19 related advice from the Department of Education we will put an alternate plan into place making sure that these interviews go ahead.
Together with Joondalup Education Support Centre and with the endorsement of the Department of Education and School Board, we are suspending lessons from 11.45am. This provides the time that the teachers need to meet with as many parents as possible in the afternoon. Arrangements for the care of children needs to organised by families. Please contact the school should you need assistance.
Talk for Writing
If you are reading your class Connect notices, you will have read about and seen photographs of the ‘hooks’ being used to prompt discussions before writing. During the last week, I have seen trolls in the gardens and popping up in windows, a cow stuck in mud, a classroom catastrophe, pirates hiding clues around the school, and ash and bones left by a dragon. I would like to applaud the staff for their creativity.
Special guest to the school
Tomorrow Ms Jo Harris, Director of Education, for the North Metropolitan Education Region will be visiting the school. At the meeting I am going to talk to her about the school’s next business plan and the successful implementation of Talk for Writing and Sounds Write.
P&C Association meeting
There is a P&C Association meeting on Wednesday 3 August 2022 at 7.00pm. It will be held in the staffroom. Please come along.
There is a new and brilliant P&C fundraiser starting today If you like chocolate, this one is for you! Check out the details in this newsletter.
Faction Athletics training
It’s Term 3 and it means one of many things … the Faction Athletics Carnival is coming! We are going to make the most of our opportunities for training so it is important that all children wear closed in, running shoes every day.
Chewing gum
Please remember that children are not permitted to have chewing gum at school.
