COVID-19 update
Thank you so much for your ongoing support as we respond to the ever-changing COVID-19 landscape. I appreciate the proactiveness of families to get children tested and accept the isolation periods that help to keep others safe.
Faction Cross Country
Whilst the day was a bit humid and children crossed the finish line red-faced and ready for a huge drink, it was great to get out as a whole school. A big thank you to Mr Lee for his work to get the children ready for the event and doing the preparation to make the day a success.
Basketball Cup
Last Tuesday Mr Easther, Mrs Sneddon and Mrs D’Uva took 20 children to a basketball competition at Warwick Stadium. It was a tough day with our students being outplayed on many fronts.
Over an ice cream, I talked with the boys and girls about their feelings about the day and they could not have been prouder or more excited about how it turned out. Here are some of the things they had to say:
- “Can we go again next year?”
- “Yeah, we lost but next year we will be ready!”
- “I bounced the ball between my legs during the game.”
- “We lost but we got really close so that was good.”
- “Some of the other kids were so big!”
- “It was so much fun.”
- “You should have seen the other girls; they were fierce.”
- “I think that some of the other teams play basketball after school so they were just better.”
I am immensely proud of the way in which the children responded and behaved at the event and for their enthusiasm to have another go.
There has been a valuable spin off with children playing modified basketball games during lunch time. This competition is always fierce but fair.
Ride to School Day and Harmony Week celebrations
Ride to School and Harmony Week is this Friday 25 March. I am looking forward to seeing decorated bikes, scooters and ‘wheels’ as we use this day to promote the physical and mental benefits of being out and about. Make sure to wear soemthing orange! Included in the newsletter are the details that you need to know.
Kindy early pick ups
For some time, Joondalup Schools have been doing an earlier pick up at 2.45pm for the Kindy groups. The purpose was to reduce the number of families on the school grounds (and so reduce the risks associated with COVID-19 transmission) and to see if there was any difference with parking. Now that COVID-19 is well and truly in the school, and parking is always going to be a pressure point, we are stopping the early pick up. From today, Kindy children will be dismissed at 3.00pm along with everyone else.
April Foolishness Day
Friday 1 April is April Fool’s Day so it’s a perfect day to be a bit foolish. More details will come from the School Captains so watch this space.
School Dress Code
The School Board has set the dress code for the school. Generally, our children look very smart and most wear their full uniform. A few things to highlight:
- The dress code prohibits nail polish and jewellery. Children should not wear rings and necklaces, and nail polish needs to be take off.
- Given our recent spate of nits, please make sure that hair is tied up.
- Please check that your child has a proper school hat as it is the best way to prevent sunburn and children need a hat to play outside.
P&C Association Update
Last Wednesday the P&C Association held their AGM. I am pleased that the key roles were filled, and the P&C will be led by:
- President – Amy Stewart
- Vice President – Julie Patton
- Secretary – Jo Salmons
- Treasurer – Rebecca Thomson
- Executive Committee member – All of the above plus Jen Coyle
The P&C have agreed to contribute $5000 to the Kindy playground this is very welcomed.
Easter Raffle
Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Easter Raffle but there is always space for more. Given what I have seen come into the office, you will definitely want to buy tickets!
Buying tickets is a two step process:

On March 18 , 2022 the Joondalup Schools held its annual Cross Country Carnival. “We’re going to run across the whole country?” exclaimed some students at the beginning of Cross-Country training. Sometimes it sure feels like it.
Well done to the jogger-nauts who represented their factions and achieved their personal best. That’s what it’s all about.
We started with the Year 6’s and worked our way down to the Year 3’s. Their courses were at Windermere Oval and each runner put their heart and sole into finishing the event. This year we moved the Year 2’s to Pre-Primary students to the Joondalup Schools Oval.
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who came down to support the students, it is always fantastic to spectators.
A special mention to all the staff involved on the day and to the Faction Captains in setting up for the event.
If you would like to compete in more cross country carnivals, please contact the Joondalup Little Athletics Centre on 0424 068 141, via e-mail admin@jlac.org.au or by visiting their website at http://www.jlac.org.au/.
Congratulations to our winners in each event.
