COVID-19 update
COVID-19 has continued to present challenges for how the school operates each day and the impact that has on classes. Decisions are being made quickly and with the information that is available from families and the Department of Education. Every effort is being made to ensure that what we have in place keeps children, staff and the broader community, safe. I am extremely grateful to everyone for their understanding during these unpredictable times. I would like to acknowledge the work of Mrs Jessica Barrett, Mrs Marie Earley and Mrs Kirsty Harris our school officers, and Ms Natalie Farina, MCS, who answered many phone calls, sent emails and helped the many families who come into the office.
Year 6 Swimming lessons
Last week the Year 6s from Room 10 enjoyed beach swimming lessons and this week Room 11 are heading into the sea. Learning to swim and being safe in the ocean are important skills for children to learn, and the weather has been perfect for a dip in the afternoon.
Thank you to Mrs Carol Perry who has done the planning for the children and staff.
Faction Cross Country
Our Faction Cross Country will be held on Friday 18 March 2022 for all Pre-Primary to Year 6 children. Mr Lee has included information in this newsletter.

Next Tuesday Mr Easther, Mrs Phillips and Mrs D'Uva are taking 20 children to compete in the Basketball Cup at Warwick Stadium. Congratulations to the following children who have been selected:

The children have been using their lunch times to get in much needed training. This is our first Basketball event in many years so this is a great opportunity to show our skills in a new sport.
We have our fingers crossed that there will be no last minute COVID-19 related cancellation so will keep families updated.
Assembly
We are having a PA assembly next Tuesday and I am looking forward to hearing the reasons children receive honour certificates. Please remember to keep an eye out for the photo.
School improvements
We are continuing to make improvements to the school. A permanent run up track to the long jump pit has been installed and the sand pit, dug out and refilled.
We know that the oval is under stress and the Department of Education is helping to improve its condition. The improvement plan is that the reticulation is being fixed, and the bore staining removed during the April school holidays.
New furniture has arrived for the Year 5 classes! We are waiting for more furniture for Kindy and classes in H Block. It was ordered last year but deliveries have been delayed.

Tiger in the Jungle
The students in rooms 18, 19, 20 and 30 created a background with leaf rubbings and a yellow and blue dye sprayed over the top. The tiger was cut out and pasted on. The elements of line, shape, colour, texture and value were revised in the process of creating the artwork.
Warm and Cool Colours
Warm colours are red, orange, and yellow. They are bright and pop out. They create energy and excitement in an artwork and are associated with happy, joyful emotions. Blue and green are cool colours. They tend to recede and create a calming energy. They may be used to express sad, calm, and tranquil emotions. Violet/purple can be both warm and cool depending on how much red or how much blue is in the violet.
Warm and Cool Colour Abstract
The students in rooms 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13 used oil pastels to create warm or cool abstracts. Warm Colour Landscape
The students in year 6 created a warm landscape. A wet on wet technique using red and yellow watercolour paint was used to paint the background. The land was added with felt pen and burnt trees were added with black ink. The ink was dropped on and blown up the page.
Birds on a Wire
The students in Pre-Primary worked with line and primary colours to create Birds on a Wire.
