Kaya families
Thank you
Thank you to the families who have returned their child’s Student Update Form. It makes it easier for the school to contact families with the big and small news, and allows teachers to have current phone numbers, address and emails. If you haven’t returned the form, please do so as soon as possible.
Assembly
Congratulations to those students who received an honour certificate last Tuesday. A very big well done to our School Captains and Sport Captains who adapted so quickly to do an amazing job reading out all of the certificates and announcements over the PA. They read with confidence and precision-absolute professionals!
Third Party Services Approval
If completing the Third Party Service Approval online form is on the ‘to do list’ please make it a priority. The school needs your approval for children to use computer tools, apps and games including Mathletics, Study Ladder, Class Dojo, Apple products, and Kapture Photography. Now that we have an additional 60 new Chromebooks in the school, the children are desperate to be able to use them!
Better long jump pits
We are hosting the Interschool Athletics Carnival so it is the perfect time to improve the long jump pits. A new synthetic run up track and cleaned out pits will be ready for the big event as the work is commencing in the next few weeks.
P&C News
AGM – The P&C Association AGM will be held on Wednesday 16 March 2022.
Before the AGM please:
- Become a financial member ($1.00) as this allows you to vote
- Nominate for one of the office bearer positions
The roles of President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and two P&C Executive members are all vacated at the AGM. People may re-nominate for their position or it could be given to someone new. We are very pleased that Becky Thomas has nominated for the position of Treasurer. A massive thank you to our previous Treasurer Hazel, who did an outstanding job and is still helping us along the way! Everyone’s efforts are so appreciated, we could not operate without you all.
Easter Raffle – Once again the P&C are organising an Easter raffle for the last week of the term. More information will be sent to families very soon. Please keep an eye out for Easter chocolate specials and non-chocolate Easter treats that you would be willing to donate.
Canteen Update – The best news is that we have a new canteen manager and we would like to welcome Nicole Hughes to the job. Nicole’s son is in Year 5 Education Support and says the school has literally changed their lives as a family. Once Nicole has settled in, the canteen will be operating five days a week. A very warm welcome to Nicole. Thank you also to the P&C team who have been very persistent in their efforts to ensure that the school benefits from a five-day canteen.
Marlene McGuiness and Sandra Morewood have continued to work extremely hard to ensure that the school year started with our three-day canteen. As always, we are very grateful for their commitment to the school community.
As always, the canteen is seeking volunteers particularly on Mondays and Tuesdays. The time options are: 9.00am-11.00am, 11.00am-1.00pm or 9.00am-1.00pm. Shifts can be once a week, once a fortnight or even once a term – it all helps.

The term has started with celebrations. Chinese New Year began on 2 February. It is the Year of the Tiger. The students viewed the work of Henri Rousseau, 'Tiger in a Tropical Storm'.
Years 5 and 6
The students worked with the element of value. Using a photograph, placed upside down and three different values of the one colour, they worked with shapes of value to draw the tiger.
Years 2, 3 and 4
The students discussed things they would like to do, learn or a challenge to achieve in 2022. These were written down and a dye washed over the top to create a background for the tiger. Rubbings of leaves were done, cut out and pasted onto their work to create the idea of a jungle. The elements of line, shape, colour, texture and value were revised in the process of creating the artwork.
Pre-Primary
The elements of line, shape, colour and texture were introduced to the Pre-Primary students as they created a cargo train collage.
