Joondalup Education Support Centre - Primary School of the Year 2021
Congratulations to Joondalup Education Support Centre on being the winner of WA Primary School of the Year 2021. This is a wonderful recognition of the quality education that you provide to your students, the support you give to families and the strong relationships between staff. This award takes on special significance as the first Education Support Centre to be recognized at the highest level for all public primary schools.
A special congratulation to Miss Natalie Hatton for her leadership of the school for the past eight years. Thank you also to the JESC School Board for writing the succeful submission for the nomination.
Importance of communication
The school is maintaining its commitment to getting information to families as quickly and easily as possible. In light of the ever changing news about COVID-19, it is vital that parents have the school app and use the classroom Connect page for information. If you have not downloaded these, please make this a priority. Before you ask, I am not privy to any additional information but it would be naïve to not think that the school won’t need to communicate quickly and accurately. Instructions have been included below.
Swimming Lessons
Congratulations to all of the students who have passed their next swimming stage. All of the children have enjoyed a wonderful fortnight of learning how to swim and being safe in the water.
Thank you to Mrs Stacey Young who has overseen the organisation to ensure the safety of children whilst they attend their lessons. The final swimming lesson is on Friday 3 December.
P&C Association
Last week the P&C met for the final time this year. Thank you to all of the parents who have committed their time and energy to this group. Significantly, I would like to thank Ms Hazel Brooks for her work as Treasurer for the past 12 months.
A huge thank you to Tanya Belsham, Jo Sheahan and Danielle Vandermeulen for all their efforts over many years with the school; they will all be sorely missed.
At the P&C meeting, we also sadly accepted the resignation of Miss Amy Daniels as canteen manager. Amy has done a wonderful job and countless recesses, morning teas and lunches have been enjoyed by both staff and children. We wish Amy well and as she begins further studies in nursing.
At the end of the year, School Banking will wind up and we would like to thank Meg Yuda and Jennifer Hermans for spending each Tuesday morning with the next generation of financial whiz kids.
Garden Club and Moorditj
Next Monday will be the final session for both Garden Club and Moorditj.
Leadership Assembly changed
There has been a change of date for the Leadership Assembly from Tuesday 7 December to Thursday 9 December at 2.15pm. This is the assembly where everyone finds out who are the 2022 School Leaders.
Last week the Year 4 – 6 children heard some creative and well informed campaign speeches from a number of Year 5 students outlining what they will bring to the school. The speeches were very well written and the effort was evident. Congratulations to all of the nominees.

How Now…Brownes Cow!
It’s incredibly important for children to understand where their food comes from and Brownes Dairy is WA’s oldest and largest dairy that offer incursions to schools so that students can learn about this farm to plate process.
Students from Kindy to Year 2 were fortunate enough to be invited to participate in the Brownes Dairy incursion, which took place on Tuesday 9 November and Friday 26 November.
Farmer Jo started the incursion by taking students on a journey which showed not only about the nutritional benefits of milk, but how milk makes its way from our dairy farms in the South West WA to their fridges at home. They also sampled a variety of yogurt and were given their own strawberry or vanilla yogurt pouches to enjoy.
Students were then treated to a special visit from Farmer Damian and Belinda the cow, well…unfortunately Belinda could not make the incursion on Tuesday 9 November as she had a tummy bug, but we were lucky enough for Amelie the cow visit. Amelie was heavily pregnant and students were delighted to share a cuddle with her and her big belly.
Thanks to the generosity of Brownes Dairy, students across the school were able to enjoy pouches of yogurt at Breakfast Club…the yogurt was an extremely popular addition to the Breakfast Club menu and it was noted by parents who attended with their children that ‘their children never eat yogurt at home!’. Thank you Brownes for this amazing experience.

It's been a very busy time in the Art Room. We have been creating a mural for the backdrop for the Carols by Candlelight event. Most classes have contributed to the huge mural.
The students in Room 31 viewed the artwork of George Seurat and pointillism. They painted the beach sand using lots of dots. They also worked with colour mixing blue and yellow with their fingers to create the grass.
The Year One students viewed the whimsical artwork of Marc Chagall. They had fun drawing and painting buildings with a whimsical feel.
The students in Year Two looked at The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai. They worked with the design principle of movement and used acrylic to paint a great wave. Their waves have all been cut out and put together to create the ocean.
The Year Two and Three students viewed the artwork of Vincent van Gogh with the focus being "A Starry Night". Using acrylic and working with the design principle of movement, they each painted part of the sky.
The students in Room 8 viewed the work of Wassily Kandinsky and painted baubles. Once dry they worked with the design principle of pattern to embellish them with gold and silver paint.
The students in Year 5 revisited the artwork of David Hockney. They have created some great characters.
There is still more to be added to the mural. I am really looking forward to seeing it hanging up at the Carols by Candlelight event. I hope you can come along and enjoy a great night of the arts.
