Dear families
Welcome to a new school term. We have now been at school for two weeks and we have packed in a few things – Anzac Day ceremony, COVID-19 and its challenges, a school development day and public holiday.
Anzac Day ceremony
Thank you for attending last week’s Anzac Day ceremony. The ceremony allowed the school to take time to remember and honour those who gave their service in past wars and conflicts. All of the ceremony’s aspects (wreath laying, flags at half mast, one minute’s silence) are part of how we pay our respects.
Thank you to Miss Mercer for organising the ceremony and to the school captains who did a wonderful job of leading the ceremony. The school choir sang beautifully which is a testament to the children’s skills and the teaching of Miss O’Connor and Mrs Butler. Thank you also to Mrs Sweet for the art, and Mrs Perry and Miss Farina for organising morning tea. It was lovely to have some guests from Brightwater; they enjoyed their morning at the school very much.
We received lots of wonderful feedback from the parents for the outstanding choir performance, the duration of service, behaviour of the children, and public speaking skills of the children.
Fundraising for the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Appeal
Thank you for your support of the Lord Mayor’s distress Relief Appeal. The money raised will be donate to communities impacted by Cycle Seroja. It was great to see so many children in free dress. Thank you to the Social Justice committee for organising this event. We managed to raise $564.50.

Willy Wagtail - Djidi Djidi
The students in rooms 4, 5 & 6 created a willy wagtail - djidi djidi out of clay. The greenware was bisque fired and then the students glazed their work. Once the willy wagtail - djidi djidi was fired again the students added legs with wire and curled the toes onto a branch. They look fantastic hanging on the wall.
Wall Plaque
The pre-primary students in room 31 explored texture. They rolled out a slab of clay and used a variety of objects to create textures on it. The clay was bisque fired and then the students added a stain and glaze to highlight the textures. A wire for hanging was added after the final firing.
Water Lilies
The students in rooms 7 & 8 viewed the artwork of Claude Monet. Working in the style of this impressionist the students created a lily pond in oil pastels. The pastels were blended with baby oil.
Poppies
After viewing the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, the year five students painted a close-up of a poppy. The work was done in acrylic paint. The poppies looked spectacular all pinned together.
