Look what we have done!
Thank you for the very kind comments about the staff’s creative ability to paint inside the lines and help create the fantastic mural at the end of C Block. It is very hard to miss when you are standing on Jolstra Avenue! It is a very welcomed splash of colour in the school.
News and events
The school regularly sends a lot of important information and good news to families. Please make sure that you have the school app, read the newsletter and check out the website.
If you have subscribed to the Newsletter, links are sent out via email fortnightly on Fridays. Anyone can subscribe to newsletters if you would like family and friends from far and wide to catch up on what is happening at school.
You can download our app by searching SZapp and information about the app has been included in the newsletter.
Last year we made good use of Class Dojo as our learning from home and class to home communication platform. This year we are switching to Connect, a Department of Education supported platform. In the coming fortnight you will receive information about how you access Connect to see posts from teachers. You don’t need to do anything just yet.
Next week you will be receiving your child’s personal details update form. Please check the form, update any information and return it to the school. This information is vital if we need to contact you for any reason.
Assembly news
Just a reminder that assemblies are held on Tuesday afternoons from 2.15pm. This Tuesday 16 February 2021 is our first assembly and will be presented by the School Captains.
The assembly schedule for Term One is included in the Term Planner at the end of the newsletter.
We are having a smoking ceremony led by Nick Abraham from Warrang-Briddil (meaning ‘Enlighten to Acknowledge’ in Noongar language) on Friday 26 February 2021 at 9.00am. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Open Night
Please come to the school on Wednesday 24 February to meet your child’s teacher and to find out about the classrooms. Each year has a specific 30 minute session during which you hear a short presentation by the teacher and ask questions. These sessions are purely for information so that you know how the classroom ‘works’ and how you can help your child. If you have more than one child, we hope that you can leave one presentation and make your way to the next one.
Specialist teachers will also be at school so this is an opportunity to catch up with them.
There is no sausage sizzle this year and children are not expected to attend. These sessions are being held in classrooms.
The times are:
- 5.00pm-5.30pm – Kindy, Year 4 and Year 6
- 5.30pm-6.00pm – PP, Year 2 and Year 5
- 6.00pm-6.30pm – Year 1 and Year 3
The Book Fair will be open in the library from 5.00-6.30pm if you would like to buy some books for your children.
Faction and interschool athletics carnivals
Like last year our faction carnival will take place in Term 3 this year. Our experience is that the children, especially those in the younger years, have had more time to develop their throwing, catching and running skills which results in a much better level of achievement and engagement for them. The weather is usually cooler and the school has some extra planning time.
We will still compete in the interschool athletics carnival later this term. Mr Lee and the teachers are working on a selection process so that we send the best team possible to the event. Children will have multiple opportunities to try out for the teams, show off jumps and throw capabilities, and to run off so that we can select our best runners.
Use of apps and websites at school
The Department of Education has asked all schools to review the range of websites and apps that children access whilst at school. We have been given the direction to review where personal data is stored and what third party companies do the with the information. There is a rigorous process for checking everything from Mathletics, Study Ladder, Bloxel and many more. All families will receive specific information in the coming weeks about this process and what you need to do to give permission for us to continue to use them. Please be assured we are not using any new programs, or doing anything different than what we usually do – this is just a way to ensure families are informed of our practices here at Joondalup.
Parking
The school has been made aware that there are lots of people parking in the streets around Manapouri Park. Please remember to drive carefully, not to block driveways and check for children who are walking around the street before driving away. Pay specific attention to the intersection as cars enter Blue Mountain Drive.
BOOK FAIR IS COMING – Monday 22 February to Friday 26 February 2021 in the library.
Also open Wednesday 24 February 2021 from 5.00-6.30pm.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
Choir will be returning this year as of Week 3. We are looking forward to what will be an exciting year!
