Dear Parents
Please make sure that you have read all of the information sent home regarding the school days for the next two weeks.
What’s happening next?
This question is difficult to answer. Simply put, we are planning for a range of scenarios to ensure that your children can continue to learn. One of the most likely scenarios is that staff will develop online work packages that can be completed at home. The school will also select an online platform that we can use to communicate with you and your children.
We have made our first steps into this space by including a page on the school website that has work that your children can do in the coming fortnight. The website address is: http://joondalupps.wa.edu.au/learning-home-support-material/
I would like to commend the staff for their efforts to get this material available to you, quickly and in a manner that is workable for many families. A very special thank you to Mrs Jessica Barrett, School Officer, who has worked at a cracking pace to format work, and create links and the webpage. Without her expertise, everyone would still be waiting!
Remember Friday 10th April 2020 is the first day of the school holidays and the children need a break. Just because the work is available, please do not make your children do schoolwork throughout the holidays.
As a school, we do not have all of the answers about what is ahead but be confident in the work that is being done by talented staff. They are doing everything to keep things as consistent as possible for your children.
Thank you to the many families who have been so supportive and encouraging as the school quickly adapts to the circumstances that are presented.
Please continue to look after yourselves and stay safe at this time.

Assembly news
Today we had our first PA assembly. Instead of getting together in the undercover area, the Student Councillors led the school’s assembly on the airwaves. Children received honour certificates, Blue was the winning faction, and we shared school news.
Canteen closure
From Monday the canteen will be closed until further notice. I would like to acknowledge the work of Mrs Carolyn White, Canteen Manager, and the volunteers who have provided many, many recesses and lunches for children and staff. The canteen will re-open as soon as it is feasible.
Kindy Enrolments 2021
Enrolments for Kindy 2021 are now open. Children born between the 1st July 2016 and 30th June 2017 are aligible to attend Kindy in 2021. To enrol your child please download and complete the Application form below and email it to the School Office at joondalup.ps@education.wa.edu.au along with supporting documentation by Friday 24th July.
Due to the current health regulations we are minimising visitors to the school which is why we ask that you do not submit this form in person at the office. Acknowldgement of enrolment forms will be sent out.
Fancy hats and wigs
Thank you to everyone who came to school wearing fancy and favourite hats or a wig or both! You looked fabulous!
During recess and lunch there were more bubbles, music and dancing.
Daily messages
We have replaced the blackboard at the front of the school with a fancy whiteboard on the wall across from the office doors. Please come and check the board for new information.
Next newsletter
This will be final newsletter in this format for the term. As more information becomes available, families will receive news via the app.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
Hands
The students in rooms 18, 19 & 20 traced around their hand then divided their page up using two vertical lines, two horizontal lines and three diagonal lines. Primary colours were used to colour the shapes made by the lines. The work was done in felt pen.
Mouse Paint
The students in rooms 14 & 15 watched a video of the story 'Mouse Paint' by Ellen Stoll Walsh. Using acrylic paint they used primary colours and created secondary colours. The three mice were torn out of paper and ears and a tail were cut out and added. the nose and eyes were drawn on with felt pen.
Gesture Drawing
On 'Happy Day" the students in Year 6 did some gesture drawings. The drawings are created quickly, in about 30 seconds and the idea was to capture movement and/or emotion.
As a part of our Maths learning the children have been experimenting with Measurement activities with a focus on length. They have been using non-standard units such as blocks, hands, match-sticks etc, to estimate, measure, compare and order various objects. During their investigations they used comparative language to solve problems or answer questions such as “Which is longer, shorter, taller, shorter.”
Hi Everyone,
There seems to be so much uncertainty around the world at the moment, so I just wanted to say, it is so nice to still see the children coming to school with big smiles on their faces, ready to learn and have some fun. I know a lot of parents, myself included, are wondering what we can do to keep our children occupied at home. I have included an article with some fun outside (at home) ideas. Maybe start your own list with the children and see how many you can get ticked off on the weekends.
Enjoy some family time together.
