Kaya families
Colour Run success
Last week ended with an explosion of colour, laughter and mess! The P&C Association’s annual Colour Run was lots of fun and enjoyed by all. It was a valuable fundraiser for the P&C and I would like to thank all families for their generosity.
Thank you to the team of volunteers who organised this event and making it a highlight for the school community. The efforts of many made this possible for the students and staff.
Staff vs Year 6 students basketball
This year’s staff vs Year 6 students basketball game was very competitive and the red and sweaty faces of the players suggested that every point was fought for. There were some very impressive three pointers from the students and impressive dunks by the staff. Thank you to everyone who played and the crowd of spectators who cheered for the teams.
Indonesian success
Our school participated in the Side By Side Competition which was run by the Modern Languages Teachers’ Association of WA. Ibu Mulyana submitted a recording of our students having a conversation in Indonesian. Congratulations to Daniel T and Stanley H who came first in the Year 6 Competition. Well done to Ibu on the great success that she had with the students.
Student leaders for 2025
Many Year 5 students have expressed an interest in becoming a School Captain, Sports Captain and Choir Captain for 2025. They have submitted their campaign posters and will be making their speeches to the voting students next week. I would like to wish all of the students good luck.
At the assembly on Tuesday 3 December 2024 the new captains will be announced.
Health and Wellness Day
This Thursday 14 Novemeber we are recognising Health and Wellness Day with lots of activities that promote mindfulness and wellbeing. There are activities such as a nature walk, drumming, sensory tools, art, movement and many others. It is vital that students have a broad brimmed hat and drink bottle as there will be times when everyone will be outside. The students will be working in their classes and joined by their Education Support Centre buddy class.
Staff professional learning
At the end of last week, we held our final school development day for 2024. All primary school staff participated in an informative and enjoyable full day learning about the Maths program ‘Top Ten Maths’. The program is a comprehensive package of lessons that enables students to use materials to develop mathematical strategies. The program is fun, engaging and challenging, and has been proven to improve student skills and knowledge. This program will be implemented in Pre-Primary to Year 2 classes from 2025. We are looking forward to getting started and can’t wait for your children to tell you all about what they are doing in Maths.
Year 3 to 6 teachers are participating in training provided by DSF (Dyslexia Speld Foundation) in their latest program ‘Word Origins’. Word Origins is an explicit spelling and word study program for students from years 3 to 6. The focus areas including word knowledge, morphology, semantics, and etymology. The program builds student vocabulary and links to spelling, reading and writing.
There are some exciting things to come for 2025.

Buddy classes with Pre Primary and Year 6
Our Pre-Primary students from Room 31 love to attend their buddy classes with our Year 6 students in Room 10. Take a look at these photos of them enjoying reading books together.
Student Musical Performance
Recently, our IMSS students showcased their musical talents in a performance for the Year 4 cohort, demonstrating the tremendous effort and dedication they’ve put into developing their skills in their instrument.
Our annual Carols by Candlelight concert is fast approaching on November 28, and students have been engaged in learning their songs and practising the accompanying choreography. Their dedication and enthusiasm in preparing for this event has been fantastic.
WASO Performance
In Week 4, our school hosted an incursion by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), featuring a performance by a strings ensemble. In preparation, students explored the different instrument families and the unique tone colours that each instrument brings to the orchestra. During the performance, the ensemble showcased a variety of musical techniques such as tremolo, glissando, and pizzicato. Additionally, they performed a variety of classical pieces such as In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg, which had students stomping along to the accelerating tempo and dynamics of the song. The group also performed various movie and television themes, including popular selections from Toy Story, Star Wars, Frozen, and the Bluey theme song. This incursion provided students with an inspiring opportunity to experience live orchestral music up close and interact with its unique sound. Thankyou WASO!

I am excited to share the latest happenings from the visual arts room! Our students have been busy working on exciting art projects, and we’re eager to share their incredible achievements with you!
Our Year 1, 2, and 3 students have been busy creating beautiful decorations for the upcoming Family Night Christmas Carols. The students have enjoyed experimenting with various art materials and techniques to create woven starts and lanterns pieces that will help bring the night to life. They are excited to showcase their creativity and are looking forward to sharing their work with you.
Year 4 students have been delving into two very different art styles: realism and abstract art. They took inspiration from nature and headed outside to the school garden, where they practiced realism through detailed drawings of the plants and landscapes. The results are impressive, capturing the beauty of the natural world with incredible precision. Following this, the students created stunning abstract pieces, incorporating bold colours and layers for a dynamic, contemporary feel. Their 3-layer abstract artworks look absolutely amazing.
Our Year 6 students have started working on something very special for their graduation – self-portraits! These portraits will be displayed at the end-of-year graduation ceremony and are a beautiful reflection of the growth and development our students have experienced during their time at the school. The dedication and enthusiasm they’ve shown in capturing their personal journeys through art is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see the final pieces. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful keepsake for both students and their families.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from our visual arts room!
