Dear families
Term 2 comes to an end tomorrow and the students and staff begin two weeks of holidays. The first day of Term 3 for the students is Tuesday 16 July 2024. I would like to thank the staff for a wonderful term at Joondalup Primary School. A lot has been packed into our 11 weeks so I hope that staff and students have a chance to get some rest before Term 3.
School Development Day
Monday 15 July 2024 is a School Development Day so no students attend school. For parents, there is an opportunity for you to meet with your child's teacher. We are holding 15 minute interviews from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. Bookings are made through the link on your dashboard on the Compass app.
The purpose of the interview is to hear about some of your child's successes, areas that require attention and simple questions to be answered. You also have the option of requesting a longer meeting time should you like and can contact your child's teacher or the school office.
Next assembly and Dress Up
The next assembly will be held on Tuesday 23 July 2024 from 2:15 pm and is being presented by the Year 6 students from Rooms 10, 11 and 13. The theme is Musicals. Everyone is welcome to come dressed up as a character that has appeared on the stage. Think Belle, Anna, Matilda, Charlie (from 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory') or someone from 'Grease', 'Sound of Music', 'Wicked' and 'Mary Poppins'.
Interschool Winter Carnival
Mr Morrey wrote:
Monday 24 June was the Winter Lightning Carnival which took place at Kingsway Sporting Complex. As the school is now part of a new interschool cluster, we competed against nine new schools in different sports. These included AFL, Rugby League Tag, Netball, Boys and Girls Soccer and Lawn Bowls.
The students arrived early and full of energy. All of our Year 6 students attended and many of the Year 5 students also represented the school. All of the students showed our PBS values of Respect, Do Our Best, Kindness and Responsibility throughout the day. Joondalup showed great sporting spirit and represented the school with pride. It was great to see so many smiles and hear many positive comments from the students at the conclusion of the day. An excellent day for Joondalup Primary School.
Finally, tremendous effort by all the teachers involved in helping this event run smoothly.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations
This year Joondalup Schools will be celebrating NAIDOC Week in Week 2 of next term. Families are invited to a picnic on Friday 26 July 2024. The picnic will commence at 11:45 am with an Acknowledgement of Country, a musical drumming item from some of the students and a Choir performance, time to picnic together, and then our very first AFL Game. Of course, there will be some modified rules so that the adults don't get injured! Please come along and be ready to play! We would love to have some adults be part of the teams. There will also be some face painting happening on the sidelines.
There will be some options for lunch - BYO, Subway (pre-orders are being taken next term), or use our usual provider, Locavora, ordered through the website.
During the week there will be other activities:
- Change Maker Quiz - Who are the community Elders and Aboriginal leaders who have made a difference?
- Derek Nannup is visiting on Thursday 25 July to share stories and a yarn with students from Pre-Primary to Year 4.
- Special art projects for students in Year 5 and 6.
- Classroom activities
Community Cabinet
Last week Joondalup Schools had the privilege of being invited by Emilly Hamilton MLA, Member for Joondalup. Layla M and Erin A from Year 6 proudly represented the primary school and were given the opportunity to speak to numerous Cabinet members including Roger Cook, Premier of Western Australia, Sabine Winton, MLA, Member for Wanneroo, and Sue Ellery, MLC, Member for South Metropolitan Region. Layla and Erin were asked about their time at school, the upcoming Year 6 camp and where they were going for high school.
Staff news
At the end of the week Mrs Maureen Lahti will be taking leave for Term 3 and I would like to welcome Miss Kelly Budding to the school. Miss Budding has been working at East Butler Primary School. Miss Budding, Mrs Lahti and Mrs Lindemann will spend some time together to ensure that there is a smooth transition for the term. Mrs Lahti will be at school for the parent-teacher interviews on 15 July 2024.
Ms Jasmin Kenworthy will be leaving us to take up a position at Redcliffe Primary School. Mr Easther will be returning to Room 13 for the beginning of the term. I would like to thank Ms Kenworthy for her work in Room 13. She has done a brilliant job of working with the students in Room 13 and been an asset to D Block, and her colleagues have enjoyed welcoming her into the team.
Kind regards
Carol Selley
