Kaya families
We have had a fantastic few weeks at Joondalup Primary School.
P&C Day WA
This Friday 24 May is P&C Day WA. On behalf of the school community, I would like to celebrate the members of Joondalup Schools’ P&C Association for their tireless work. Over many years, numerous volunteers have given time, shared their enthusiasm for the school community and been committed to projects. Because of their efforts our students have been the beneficiaries in so many ways including improved playground spaces, literacy and mathematical resources, camp and swimming subsidies, choir t-shirts, and fully funded in-school performance. We are extremely grateful that we have such a strong P&C who give so much to make things possible.
Swimming lessons
Congratulations to all Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 children who participated in swimming lessons. The children had a wonderful time and some of them wished that swimming was "everyday".
Years 3 - 5 swimming lessons will be happening in Weeks 10 and 11, more information will be sent via Comapss soon.
Starlight Foundation Fundraiser - Friday 24 May
The school captains have organised a fundraising day for the Starlight Foundation. Children are encouraged to wear purple, gold or both, or come dressed in a superhero costume. Please bring a gold coin donation for the day.
Circus Themed Day - Friday 7 June
Don't forget to wear your brightest coloured clothes for our Circus Themed Day. This event is our celebration for achieving 100,000 Dojo points across the school. Each year group will have their own timeslot with circus instructors to experience juggling, acrobatics and tricks. We encourage everyone to get dressed up in free dress with a circus twist!

Faction Cross Country 3 May
Recently students competed in the Faction Cross Country event. Great effort was displayed on the day and in preparation for this. It was excellent to see the students putting in extra training to improve their results from the previous year.
Blue faction was victorious by a very slim margin and this was only decided in the final Pre-Primary race.

Winter Lightning Carnival
The Year 5 and 6 students currently have trials to make the interschool teams in soccer, AFL, league tag rugby and netball. This year we are in a new school cluster and will be versing 9 other schools in the area on Monday 24 June (Week 11). Information for permission and payment will be sent to all Year 6 and selected Year 5 students via Compass very soon.
State School Boys (Hockey)
In exciting news, Jaxon Robertson from Year 6 has been chosen to represent the Western Australia school boys in the national Hockey competition. Jaxon has spent many early mornings and afternoons training to get to where he is today. We are all so proud of such an amazing achievement by Jaxon, who shows dedication and commitment to his craft and we wish him all the best when he competes in Cairns.

Year 6 Wonder Eat Up Incursion
The Year 6 students recently participated in The Wonder Eat Up program which provides over 20 000 lunches a week to students who otherwise may not receive food while at school. The students worked efficiently and responsibly and ended up making over 1000 sandwiches in just 1 hour. We had makers, wrappers and runners all working in perfect harmony.
We were fortunate enough to be led by Jules from Eat up who was a wonderful instructor and said that the Joondalup students were the best team of students that she had worked with to date.
Throughout the term, it has been fantastic to witness the dedication and creativity of our students as they come to Music classes each week.
Music consists of various elements: dynamics (volume), pitch (sound frequency range), tempo (speed), rhythm (sound pattern), timbre (sound quality), texture (interactions of sounds), and form/structure. This is the language musicians use to communicate, create and understand music. Students from Years 1-6 have been exploring and investigating the elements of music through various experiences.
Students from Years 1-6 have been actively exploring these elements through various activities. Junior students are discovering instrument timbres by investigating orchestral families. Middle to upper students are actively participating in hands-on activities such as using parachutes to match dynamic changes, performing tempo changes on boom whackers, and exploring musical form by interpreting John William's Star Wars theme (ABA) through movement.
Following practical experiences, students have been studying specific elements in groups to share with peers. Recently, they have been analysing the performances of famous musicians to identify these musical elements.
Our Pre-Primary students embarked on an imaginative journey to Mars, exploring pitch direction and vocal play. In this roleplay, they interacted with Martians, experimenting with high and low pitches to create their own Martian names. Using string shapes and singing patterns, they crafted melodic names and introduced themselves in their new Martian speak.
In choir, students have begun preparing for The One Big Voice Festival, and it has been fantastic to see their dedication. They have been actively learning the materials, rehearsing songs at home, practising choreography movements and consistently bringing their choir folders weekly.
I would also like to congratulate our student Phoebe in Year 4 for being awarded a Scholarship at the Joondalup School of Music. We are very proud of Phoebe’s achievement and look forward to seeing her flourish in her musical journey. This scholarship is a testament to Phoebe’s hard work and passion for music, and we are thrilled to see her receive this scholarship.
Additionally, the school has received a new instrument, a bass Marimba. A bass marimba is a large percussion instrument similar to a xylophone or a marimba but with a lower range, providing deep, resonant tones. A huge thank you to the School’s P&C for their support in attaining this instrument.
The Joondalup Primary School students were very busy creating wonderful arts and crafts ready for Mother's Day a couple of weeks ago. Take a look at some of the wonderful pieces they created.
Welcome to the latest update from our vibrant art room!
Our talented students in Years 5 and 6 have just completed their artwork for the prestigious City of Joondalup’s Art competition. The task of selecting only six pieces to represent our school is a testament to the high calibre of their work. We eagerly await the final decision.
Year 4 students embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of monochromatic painting. They delved into the vocabulary of art, learning about hue, base colour, tint, and shade. Applying their newfound knowledge, they painted their own monochromatic scale. But the real magic happened when they transformed their paintings into 'spacey' 3D art, cutting out two circles and pasting them on black cardboard, leaving a small strip of black shadow under the circles. The result was truly out of this world!
Year 3 is developing artistic processes and techniques to explore visual conventions through colour with tints (mixing white). They were inspired by Robert Wyland, an American artist and conservationist best known for his over 100 Whaling Walls, large outdoor murals featuring life-size whales and other sea life images.
Stay tuned for more updates on their artistic journey!
